Another lovely bright day but very cold first thing - at which point I downloaded some items currently rising high in the Spanish album charts...

We have been enjoying the quiet surroundings...

Today, out for breakfast...

Coffee, juice...

...and things we like...

Then, a walk towards our target, passing The Mushroom Thing...

...and a snail on a wall...

...and lovely old buildings...

...and strange religious artifacts shops...

Past the cathedral...

...and the horses...

...and the University...

...over broad, busy roads...

...and the Portuguese consulate...

...and, finally, into the park where the Plaza de Espana is located...

...built for the 1929 Ibero-American Expo...

Spectacular indeed...

Here are all the alcoves around the semi circular edifice...

...and here's the one we sat in 22 years ago...

No idea why we chose this one...

There was impromptu Flamenco dancing going on - complete with hellish singing...

More excellent views...

Then, a stroll through the park...

...with wildlife...

...and oranges...

...and more views...

...and museums and pavilions

We spotted a place for lunch...

...which has also been here since 1929...

Coffees and tortilla were most enjoyed...

...before the walk back...

...which took us through the Santa Cruz district...

...and the Empenada shop...

...to Pilate's House, close to our apartment...

In we went for an enjoyable afternoon, learning "stuff" from our audio guides...

...and admiring the impressive surroundings...

...and gardens...

Apparently, some of these statues are from the time of Tiberius and Claudius...

And out...

We finally made into Bar Alfalfa - which always seemed to have a queue outside it...

Anne was pleased...

Then, home for a wee rest...

...before heading out again in the evening...

Drinks at Fabiola...

...before making our way back along the road...

...to La Bodega, sitting though the back this evening and enjoying a good selection of tapas...

Fish salad...

Leek terrine...

Cod in bechamel sauce

...and the top notch pork dish which Anne had ordered on Monday night...

...accompanied by drinks of course...

...and home again for coffee and chocolate nightcaps...

Highlight of the Day : Plaza de Espana...
