Up before 6 as couldn't sleep but nothing to do really other than some listening and surfing on my phone...

Anne appeared around nine for breakfast...

Out and over, through the rain, to the delightful little village of Linton...

...and to the nearby Linton Falls, which were considerably smaller than expected...

...passing the nearby St Michael and All Angels Church...

On to the Falls...

Then a drive over the moors to Settle...

We had a look round, two CDs, a couple of Haydn string quartets and a live album from Hungarians After Crying, with guest John Wetton, entered the collection from a charity shop...

To the town's famous railway station...

There was something strange about the light today...

We stopped in at “The Folly” for coffee, buying cake too for later on...

and, finally, ending up at The Golden Lion, where we'd lunched six and a half years ago...

That's probably an acceptable period without eating a Settle Pudding...

Yum...

Back outside and the sun was glowing orangey red in the sky...

Online searches resulted in the advisement that this phenomenon was caused by Hurricane Ophelia drawing up sand and dust from the Sahara and smoke from Spanish and Portuguese wildfires and filtering our normal view of Sol...

Clear that it wasn't in fact the End of Days, we bought some petrol and headed to the Ribblehead Viaduct...

...where we failed to spot a train, until it had actually crossed the viaduct...

Oh well...

A drive then to Skipton...

...where Anne bought a wooden Duck, coveted since being seen on Saturday...

...meanwhile I nipped into Oxfam and picked up further CDs by trumpeter Chris Botti, ably assisted by The Blue Nile's Paul Joseph Moore on keyboards, and some cello works by Lalo...

Home via Bolton Abbey and Appletreewick and cakes were scoffed. Needlessly really, considering we were both still stuffed from lunchtime – but no tea tonight...

Botti and Lalo soundtracked, as Anne crossworded and I wrote this up...

In the evening, no need for anything much other than a slice of toast, given the earlier intake and we just relaxed in the cottage and enjoyed our usual Monday evening TV of “University Challenge”, “Upstart Crow” (sadly, the fnal episode) and “W1A”...

A little bit of “Newsnight” before hitting the sack...

Highlight of the Day : Settle Pudding...
