Various – Cloudland Blue Eclectic Selection 2017 Vol 36

Awake at 4:30 but snoozed for a couple of hours before rising and writing this up whilst enjoying an almost year old episode of the the podcasts...

I like listening back, as I've usually completely forgotten what music was selected and what nonsense was espoused by your correspondent...

An e-mail advises the latest edition (the early posted Vol 42) is 16th in the Experimental Ambient chart...

It is, of course, an eclectic selection – here's the list of included artists:-
Cloudland Blue Quartet, Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Calvin Harris, Sigur Rós, Sunn O))), Lady Gaga, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Max Richter, Kamasi Washington, Meshuggah, Kendrick Lamar, Sia, Farzad Golpayegani, Taylor Swift, Skrillex, Blondie, Jason van Wyk, Ciempiés, Siv Jakobsen, Snoop Dogg, Tori Amos, Leprous, Soen, Audiomachine and Kauan...

Of these, probably fewer than 10 fit the Experimental Ambient bill – however, my own ambient collaboration with Cris Ely of Asylumpeace heads off the programme so that's good if Ambient Experimentalists tune in for a listen – not sure though how attracted by chart placing listeners might cope with the surfeit of Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris...

Breakfast and some taking in of views in the garden...

...then into the car for this morning's drive over the moors to Ripon...

A quiet market town which, due to its cathedral, is actually a city...

There was much wandering around as we waited for a Mass to conclude within said cathedral...

A CD of Brahms and Dvorak was purchased for £1.49 in Scope (and soundtracked the rest of the day) and a book by Stephen Hawling for £1.65 from Cancer Research, while Anne perused shoe shops without spending...

The best street in the town was the Kirkgate, where Hector's House was enticing, though, again, no outlays...

Nearby cafe, Chimes, allowed us the chance to sit and enjoy coffee and scones, the proprietor, an ex-Irn Bru employee who knew Edinburgh, drew me in to purchasing a second scone – cherry and marzipan which, while absolutely delicious as described, was probably a step to far on the scone front...

To the cathedral as the Mass finished and some snaps taken and some looking around...

In the knave, we got chatting to a volunteer, who advised scenes of both the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Cathedral in the TV series “Victoria”, a fave of the Exec Producer, were filmed in this very space...

St Wilfred's crypt was also visited...

Further walking around ensued and a tasty Italian Tomato soup for lunch...

...before we left the city and drove to nearby Studly Park, where we enjoyed a long walk around the grounds and deer park...

Much photographing took place...

Back to the car and the drive home included a stop at Pateley Bridge, most of which, sadly, by now, was closed...

Not to worry, on to Grassington and the Black Bull for drinks followed by a walk around the square and into the Devonshire for tea...

The tastiest steak and ale pie in Christendom (not pictured) was enjoyed by your correspondent while the EP satisfied her craving for fish and chips (also not pictured)...

Yum...

Home and some fire-building took place while the film “The Lunch Box” was very much enjoyed...

Excellent choices of films to bring along by the EP...

“Newsnight” re China, followed by bed, with another Eclectic Slection on the cans...

Highlight of the Day : Another pie...
