Bowie/Eno/Pop - Bowie in Berlin
Robert Fripp - New York World Trade Center, December 4, 2010
Pink Floyd - The Endless River
Cheryl - Only Human
Up, as often is the case, infeasibly early - and to work on finishing off this week's podcast and loading it up...
Then, an 80 minute mix, "Bowie in Berlin", combining music from the so-called "Berlin Trilogy" of "Low", "Heroes" and "Lodger" (of course "Heroes" was the only one of the three actually completely recorded in Berlin (mixed in Switzerland though) - but enough pedantry)...
Other than the works of Mr B, also included were tracks from Iggy Pop's "The Idiot" and "Lust for Life", along with Brian Eno's "Discreet Music" (which brought Bowie to call on Eno's services on "Low" in the first place), "Music for Films" and "Before and After Science"...
I may post it up...
In the afternoon, having not, as intended, rehearsed any of the covers pre tomorrow's get together (other than the guitar solo for "Make Me Smile") , I took Anne to her mum's for Hearts' disappointing "win ugly" 1-0 triumph over Raith Rovers (Queens thrashed Dumbarton 3-0 to stay third) - then headed into town to the music library...
...to renew the Bowie book which inspired the above work and also partake of some presumably tasty dub plates from Lee "Scratch" Perry and two presumably tasty albums from Ian Carr's Nucleus...
Poppy day tomorrow...
...lest we forget...
I am probably around three times older now than were many of the young men at the time of their dying in the Great War...
I am looking it too unfortunately...
Out to my mum's - looking chipper...
...but, later, upset, as the third anniversary of sister Pam's passing approaches - hard to believe it's already almost four years since I was called to London...
Those were dreadful times, indeed the worst of times...
However, onwards we must go...
This evening, we drove to Penicuik, to meet up with fellow Creekster Stu, his sister Lesley, chum Chris with a Ch and new to us chums John and Alison - for some drinks at The Old Crown Inn and then over to Clippers for a very tasty indeed Indian meal and much good chat...
...and blurry pics - some by Stu having commandeered the CBQ camera...
A very good night...
We returned to the bar with the intention of not staying too long but the chat was so good, particularly that with John re both music and economics and, with further new chums joining the fray, that, before we knew it, it was 12:30 am- time to drive back...
But, once home, there was the new Cheryl Cole (or whatever she's called now) to sample - following on from today's other acquisition of the new Pink Floyd album - while Anne got waylayed by a report from old chum Digger McLaren re a meet with new Hearts Head Honcho Ann "The Budgemeister" Budge...
Consequently, it had gone 1:30 when the sack was finally hit...
A good day...
Highlight of the Day : Out and about and meeting new chums...
