Up early and last minute prep...

Leaving Meg behind, no doubt to further claw the new furniture,we were off on a four day trip to celebrate our anniversary...

Breakfast in Dunbar..

..and provisions taken on board...

The weather was less than promising...

Down the A1 with our second stop being Alnwick...

And Barter Books...

...where my large credit note was made smaller by the purchase of three CDs and three books...

Music by Weber and the composers of the French Court, plus a Concise History of Modern Art, a novella on the Bakerloo Line by Paul Morley and a novel by Antoine de Saint Exupery...

Time for lunch...

..and a sit by the fire...

Into Alnwick itself for a look around the town...

At Oxfam, more books - Kenneth Clarke's "Civilisation" for me and Jane Austin's "Persuasion" for Anne -  a better copy than that on offer at Barter Books - and cheaper too - although I suppose, technically, it would have been kind of free...

On we drove down to the little village of Warkworth, and our lodgings for the next few days...

...directly opposite this...

Access was not until 4pm, so a wee walk around the town...

The main street has a Norman church at one end...

...and a Castle, parts of which date from the 12th Century, at the other...

Into one of three or four bars in the main street for some of this...

..and a glass of wine for the lady...

Back to the cottage and in...

Superb...

...and our provisions provision was trumped...

We made ourselves at home...

...and, this evening, stayed in...

...and cooked (mostly Anne cooked)...

A very tasty seafood and chorizo linguini with a cheeky bottle of red...

A relaxing evening, ready for tomorrow...

Highlight of the Day : Brilliant cottage...
