Walking, castling, drinking, eating...

Playlist
Various - iPod Shuffleplay
Cloudland Blue Quartet - New Pieces
Various Composers - The Most relaxing Classical Album in the World Ever

A reasonably late rise and leisurely breakfast...

And out into slight rain for a walk to nearby Amble...

Past the castle...

Our target in the distance...

Along the River Coquet, noting wildlife on the way...

..with good views back to our point of origin...

On down the river...

..and through the boat yard...

A look round the high street and a couple of discs partaken of at the small, just packing up market down at the harbour - Durutti Column and a 2CD classical compilation for just one hundred and eighty of your English one pence pieces...

On out onto the harbour wall, looking back up river...

And then, a seal was spotted...

The beast was about its business with its Exec Producer...

An Eider Duck also spotted...

Down to the very end, the sea was pretty stormy...

...as Anne discovered...

...running away just in time...

Coffee/Hot Chocolate and cake beckoned as we warmed our bones...

Then, back along the river...

..the tide having receded...

These birds, the Cormorant, were the source of some hilarity in my primary school class due to their alternative name, the Shag...

Kids eh?

A rest in the cottage before walking over to the castle and taking the very informative tour...

The keep is intact other than the roof and wooden floors...

...and there are several interesting ruins around it...

Inside, audio guides at our ears...

The kitchen...

The great hall...

The view of the town, with our cottage at the forefront...

How it once was...

..and again...

Double the guard...

A walk down through the town to the old bridge beyond the church - a chilly day for a wedding - much like our own back in 1983...

The view from the bridge...

A walk along the river behind the church...

..and through...

..and to the Mason's Arms...

Back to the cottage to get ready for dinner at the Old Post Office...

Very tasty indeed...

Terrine and Chowder...

Mains not pictured - suffice to say, equally tasty pork and steak fillets enjoyed...

...and, after a lengthy break, a little bit of pudding related nourishment ensued...

...including home made plum crumble and custard for the lady who opined she couldn't eat another thing but somehow managed...

Out into the night...

..and home, perhaps a little bit the worse for wear...

A good day...

Highlight of the Day : Early Anniversary dinner...
