David "Fathead" Newman - The Soulful Mr Newman
Out into a dark day - my dad's 83rd birthday had he not passed away in 2003...
To HMV at lunchtime - nothing purchased - despite a £10 voucher in my pocket...
On to Fopp and two £2 second hand discs acquired - updating Roxy Music's live album and a 1969 artefact from the Jeff Beck Group...
Back home and the David Newman three disc set ordered on Saturday morning was here already...
Smooth...
Spent the evening listening to those new discs apart from watching "Miranda", which disappointed after last week but was still very good...
News tonight that HMV may be in administration by tomorrow morning...
Over 4,000 jobs at risk...
In 2012, their two main directors were each paid around £500,000 (see page 19) while the company lost millions...
They left and the two new bosses are the guys who previously ran Jessops (good choice)...
I wonder if Fopp will come out the other side of this...
It seems the High Street is doomed in terms of anything which can be bought on the net...
You reap what you sow...
Wonder if HMV will honour my token tomorrow - I swithered over the new Everything Everything album today - should've gone for it - if that doesn't sound too mercenary but, to be honest, over the years I've spent a fortune on HMV and Fopp so I'm hardly to blame for their demise am I?
Or maybe I am?
Lowlight of the Day : The very probable end of HMV and Fopp...

Looking grim for your token Mr CBQ, :-(
Yep - token goosed...
It's a shame Mr CBQ - Fopp is an excellent experience. Yes, buying on NET is now a hell of a lot easier.....but music lovers still want Bricks * Mortar stores, and quality ones.
The end is nigh
Hi Mr Grapes
I don't think there's an answer to this but I'm just so tired of hearing how downloads and vinyl are so important to music while CDs are not...
CDs easily provide the best sound reproduction - forget all the bollocks about vinyl unless you're willing to spend thousands on a sound system, which most can't - and even then there're still scratches and surface noise to contend with...
CDs still easily outsell downloads, while vinyl's much trumpeted year on year percentage increases in sales are but a drop in the ocean, based as they are on such a pathetically low starting point...
I'm also sick of hearing how the album is dead and people only want to hear tracks...
What music can't be an art form anymore? It's purely entertainment?
I read a good analogy yesterday on that, it's like saying there's no place for films anymore, just make a 15 minute piece containing all the exciting bits...
The Lord of the Rings trilogy could be cut down from nine hours to 30 minutes...
But is that really better?
Just what the fuck is wrong with people these days?
Or maybe I'm just getting too old...
Yep that's it!
I think I'm just very anxious about a time to come when there is no physical product being issued just files comign through the ether to a hard drive...
Yours in denial...
