To Fopp today - what a surprise...

It keeps my steps up to walk there everyday - and gives me something interesting to look at when I arrive...

Following on from the purchase a couple of weeks back of 75 Original American Rock'n'Roll Anthems, today two new compilations entered the collection for just five (count 'em) of your English pounds...

In all, I acquired 80 examples of American Doo Wop spanning the period 1955 to 1961 - a collection of top class singles licensed and released in the UK by Decca offshoot London American...

My influence in relation to this was the story of how, when Brian Eno was growing up in rural Suffolk, this was the popular music which formed a huge part of his listening - due to the proximity of an American Air-force Base and the stocking in local jukeboxes of the then latest examples of this enjoyable genre...

As a bonus, amongst the 80 tracks is the original version of "Stranded in the Jungle" by The Cadets - New York Dolls' cover of this from the early 70's has always been a favourite...

Also took advantage of a £3 offer on White Denim's "D" - a work which has impressed me since receiving a burn of it from Count Brodski around 14 months ago...



Tonight, a drinks party surprisingly resulted in your correspondent being not too the worse for wear upon arriving home...
