Heavenly music...

Playlist
UK - The Best of UK (CD-R)
Happy Apple - Happy Apple Back on Top
Il Giardino Armonico - Musica Barocca

Into town today accompanied by my own concoction of my favourite supergroup, UK...

Underwent my physiotherapy assessment. The lovely "Jo" gave me three new exercises to try and get me back on track and advised that she was very pleased with my post op progress...

She also warned me however, not to try and wean myself off the rather large painkiller doses I am still enjoying, as the pain will well and truly kick back in should I do so...

Home to the far out jazz sounds of Happy Apple - mmm, mmm...

Some lovely lamb tonight from Anne's kitchen followed by some Rangers and Arsenal football, neither of which was watched in its entirety as I retired upstairs to listen to the latest arrival from e-bay, a disc of excellent baroque music featuring J S Bach, Albinoni, Vivaldi, Marcello, Telemann, Pachelbel, Purcell and Handel...

Nice...

Even nicer as it cost just 25p plus 99p postage...

Then, highlight of the day - the latest BBC3 (one week ahead) episode of "Spooks"...

Oh yes...

Highlight of the Day : Spooks - again

I don't believe we get spooks yet in the US. It looks really good from what I hear. You wouldn't know where it can be streamed from, would you?

I just recently fell upon your blogs while researching Peri Urban. It's quite an endeavor you've taken on, but I bet it's old hat now, after so long.

Hope you're feeling much better soon.

Hi Dan'l - You may know Peri Urban from his presence on YouTube - I am one of his long-time collaborators having workied with him on and off since 1984 - indeed Crispy the Cat (RIP) after whom I named my label was our first connection - Peri worked in the same office as my wife and advertised that his cat had had some kittens - we took Crispy, the smallest of the bunch.

As regards Spooks - you can read about the series here : http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/spooks/

Wikipedia advises that "In the United States, the series is screened on A&E, a speciality cable channel, under the title MI-5" see the article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spooks) - the bit about overseas screenings is at the bottom of the page

I'm afraid I don't know if episodes can be screened from anywhere though..

Thanks for stopping by and for your best wishes...

I love stuff like this! I wondered about that label name. It just sounded great.

Indeed, I met Peri on YouTube. He's an intriguing character with compelling stories in his history. He surrounds himself with enough mystery that it makes it a challenge to search out the many tidbits he's left on the trail behind him.

Were you part of the band he recorded "I Forget Myself" with? Yes -- there you are, playing Bass. AWESOME. I'd love to hear a lot more of that band's work, actually. Too bad it didn't last.

Thanks for the tip on MI5. I'll look into that. Like I need another TV show to follow...

The Dancers of San Martino are mentioned on the “Bands” page but I’ve not yet put in the story of the band – nor that of CBQ & Peri Urban...

The CBQ and Peri Urbam albums are all improvisational electronic albums – Peri was very much a n electronic music man until recently when he discovered the delights of YouTube...

From the mid 80’s to the early 90’s he had a band called Tranceport which idolised Tangerine Dream...

He stated making music in the mid 70’s, recording things like scraping metal on windows!!

I’m pretty sure he never did a purely song-based album like the stuff he puts up on the Tube – the improve piano pieces are closer to his music pre YouTube...

Dancers of San Martino is the group which did "I Forget Myself" while "Ampersand" contains the original recordings of four or five of Peri's songs including "Stranded" which he posted on YouTube as "Upon A Page"...

The recordings for that album were done in the period 2000-2002 and it includes music from the b/w film mentioned above which was released just after Crispy died aged 18...

On the songs included on Ampersand, Peri (Stewart Robinson) wasn't confident enough of his own vocals so he recorded me singing his songs then stripped away the guide music and produced new backing tracks...

This mirrored his production methods on the album "Heavenview" from 1988 - we recorded six songs and he took my vocals and drum tracks and added new keyboards and guitars...

He is a talented man...

We’re still in touch – indeed we were e-mailing each other just yesterday discussing YouTube stuff – I have no presence there (yet) but that day may come...

Hope this gives you some more background on the enigmatic Mr Urban...

Cheers
