Up before 6 on a Monday morning?

This is what you can do when you are no longer beholden to anyone...

Today, I was releasing into the wild, a recording of the original Capital Models final performance, at Eric Brown's in Edinburgh on 26 August 1980...

Here’s my diary entry for that day, 26/8/80...

 It shows the band...

...played 19 gigs...

...with 5 different line ups...

...at 13 different venues...

...in 7 different towns...

...in just 33 weeks...

The notes "Sweet Thrill", "Breaking Silence" and "Dance" refer to recording dates of the 3 cassettes we issued...

Starting around September 1979, we wrote 23 songs and in the 33 week period above, we recorded 2LPs and an EP of original material...

Could the band do that in its current formation?

Why not?

Anyway, on listening back to what I had uploaded way back onto Bandcamp for the release, I decided it needed some sprucing up...

So I spruced it up...

And out it went  - with the previous, more raw version as a bonus for downloaders...

From the shelf, a Barcelona purchase (Christopher Tignor) soundtracked the rest of the morning...

Then, out to my mum's and took her to her Women's Guild meeting - a "fashion show"

Did her shopping, took it back to the house then tidied up her kitchen...

Picked her up after a couple of hours of pensioner fun for her and brought her home...

Meanwhile, at our home, Anne was finished...

The sun was shining on my work from around 2008...

...and I set up a new account on Bluesky...

...which looks EXACTLY like Twitter used to, before Elon Musk ruined it...

Only problem is, just now, there's no-one there...

Tomorrow, I would post this on the Twitter - or "X" as Muskhole has renamed it,,,

Jeez...

Also played some songs from LPs of the week by people I'd not heard of prior to finding said LPs...

Meanwhile, Anne was painting the porch, expertly...

A day off from visiting my mum, with three encounters due over the upcoming 4 days - including her 93rd birthday on Thursday...

So, more listening...

...and plugging my output...

Sad news re the death, at just 53, of Brian McBride of Stars of the Lid - a superb duo...

An apt soundtrack to a programme on telly (with the sound down) of, basically, some sheep wandering around on a mountainside...

This is how I am entertained...

That and by music recommended to me by Scanner and by Dave Bidini...

The machines awaited...

A Saturday spent in the house...

Some work done on a project which may ultimately be abandoned, CBQ's variations on Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of the Moon"...

Other than that, the podcast compiled, links recorded, programme put together and issued up onto the internet to be almost completely ignored...

Fucksake...

I do it for me of course but it's so frustrating to know there's something out there with so much great music waiting to be discovered and no one takes a blind bit of notice...

Their loss...

No doubt some telly enjoyed...

"Teenage Bounty Hunters" - yeah!

And came across a download of the instrumental mixes of one of my all time fave LPs, Yes' "Tales From Topographic Oceans"...

Yowsah!!

Amazing to think that, in December 1973, a double LP with just four "songs" on it, of very complex music indeed, was the best selling LP in the UK?

Even more amazing is that ELP's "Brain Salad Surgery was at No 2...

Plus Elton's best ever LP, Bowie's covers project, classic Roxy and Slade's hits...

Of course, Donny O, David C, Gilbert O'S and Perry C kind of balanced things out!

Awoke on the sofa around 3 and managed to get a blanket over me and then fell back asleep, finally getting up around 6:45...

The views...

I can report that the night spent on the sofa and no further intake of painkillers for the rest of the day hinted I had perhaps turned a painful leg corner...

The new Alice Cooper LP, "Road", was out today - nabbed a download along with some other stuff...

First listen - liking it but his work usually takes a few listens to sink in...

I set about compiling a career spanning 2CD equivalent, cross-faded Coop-comp, which was most enjoyable...

Did not get round to recording the podcast...

Out mid afternoon with Anne and into Fopp to get the physical copy of "Road"...

Paul from Fopp approached me and advised he'd received my e-mail re my initial verbal enquiry re playing instore, which I'd made on 1st August...

He advised they'd love me to play...

Great news...

I will be performing the Newcastle set...

Date and time TBC...

Back to St Michael's church to meet up with Dr Prog for a cello recital by Hugh Mackay....

Two of Bach's solo suites for Cello and a piece by Penderecki from 1968 which was "far out, man"...

Top notch...

Then, to the Diggers for drinks...

After moaning all night about his service from Three on Monday and me saying just move to O2, the doc is now on O2...

And happy...

We bade him farewell and walked along to new place, Mustafa's Dera (Dera means house), for some home made Pakistani fayre...

And Ludo!

Superb huge portions of pakora - ya dancer...

Followed by very tasty chicken/lamb curries with breads...

Anne eventually won the Ludo...

A convoluted bus journey on the No 1 and walk home...

More listening to the new Coop...

The new LP, the Pakistani food, the cello recital and the much improved leg all made for an excellent Friday indeed...
