Up rather what, these days, might be termed, late...
Scenes...
Did some "looking into" the Loop Station but nothing plugged in or anything, just reading...
Breakfast...
Tuesday...
Blue Sky chum Dancing Monk posted that he was listening to my collection, "Rubinmusik 1977-1217" this morning...
I love it when I find out who is listening...
Thanks Mr Monk!
According to Bandcamp, people are listening every single day...
Which is a good reason to keep going...
On this 8CD equivalent set of my music over 40 years (free to steam/name your price to download), despite nominally being a compilation, 76 of the 82 tracks are either previously unreleased or only available on this release...
Worth nabbing perhaps?
Or even just dipping in?
Also this morning, rediscovered this blog, My Top Ten Albums Acquired, which hasn't been updated since September 2021...
It "needs" to be brought up to date...
...and, possibly, some backtracking, as I want to only include physical CDs - or have two 10s per month from a certain point, CDs and downloads...
Most likely outcome?
I'll forget I thought about it...
Anne was off out for lunch with Debbie at swanky venue The Devil's Advocate...
Should have been a trio with Theresa , but word received this morning that her husband, Christopher, is very ill so just a duo...
We await word on Christopher and hope for a speedy recovery...
I lunched at home and watched a Polish thing "1670"?
I fell asleep..
Fang appeared at the window and was given some Dreamies...
He doesn't even try to come inside now...
Poor wee Fang...
Later, a picture of my CD intake for June, July, August and September (none so far in October)...
Might be an idea to actually play some of them some time?
On Anne's return, some music in the living room, including a 1974 concert by the Tubes, recently brought to my attention by Count Brodski...
Soup (and beans) for tea...
...and some "FBI"...
Then, with "Bake Off" for Anne, I returned upstairs and decided to, indeed, play some recent CDs...
Or at least tracks from some...
SMSL player moved to the "wall"...
...and off we went...
Starting off with one bought at the end of May…
Fennesz’s “Black Sea”, from 2008…
Superb soundscaping…
Next up, Ohio Players from their 1993 compilation, “Orgasm”, playing “Pain” from the 1972 LP of the same name…
Funk, in mono…
Northern Soul from a compilation of tunes from the vaults of RCA...
James Walsh Gypsy Band, the only track that breaches the 3 minute mark...
From 2006, a crossover disc of traditional Moroccan music and, at the time, modern dance floor beats...
Sounds better than that description sounds…
“Elegia” from Bartok’s Concert for Orchestra...
Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos and the LSO, from Collins in 1990, when I worked there…
Next, some kinda “Punk Rock” from “The Wire Tapper 68”...
No 69 ought to have been with the November issue but, nope. Maybe next month…
Anyway, playing Drug Dog’s “Strobolights” from this…
Then, Taylor Swift from last year...
Amazing that she’s written and recorded over 40 songs while playing her record breaking world tour...
Listening to this though, makes me think that maybe, just maybe, her new one is a backward step, although the just released video for the lead off track makes it sound better!
Now, some Lana del Rey. Of her and Swift, she is the artist, Swift the entertainer. Janis Joplin was an option re a choice from this latest handful but I rate Swift and del Rey a million miles better…
When on a spree, I often buy discs by people I’ve never heard of. I recently got three by John Moreland. Great pared back Americana…
This one is from around 10 years ago…
Another by whom I acquired three titles recently was Will Stratton. More top notch Americana. He had me at the inclusion of bass clarinet! “The Changeling Wilderness” from 2021 on Bella Union…
Donovan Woods was also unknown to me. But having “Made in Canada” on the back cover put him at an advantage! From Toronto back in 2011, a great record…
“The Widowmaker” on the Aporia label…
Bought for 20p in Guisborough, on our way to Whitby last month, a CD/DVD set from pomp metallers Within Temptation. Don’t usually like female singers with metal bands but this is just fine…
"The Silent Force” from over 20 years ago now…
OK last one. Another Canadian...
Jazz guitarist Michael Occhipinti’s collection of Bruce Cockburn interpretations, “Creation Dreams”, with Mr C even appearing on the record…
I ended up listening to the whole of this CD. Top notch...
Some chat on Blue Sky about how we store box sets - I have these...
...and these...
Back downstairs for the first of "Murder Before Evensong" and then, bed...
Another day of nothing really...
Highlight of the Day : Listening to CDs...
