Up pre 7 with an idea for a new LP in my head...
Also, on the Crazy Wisdom front, word from Talcy - he's finally finished the lyrics for "Global Herding" and has some ideas re the music...
We may work on something next week...
He is, get this, posting the lyrics to me!
...as in, in an envelope with a stamp...
Anyway, scenes...
And so, the makings of something new this morning...
We'll see..
Contrary to Edward Spark's accusation, I have not downloaded his recently mastered "Ascension" track, halved the speed and reversed it...
My new thing seems to be one note for 55 minutes. But it's actually ok...
Kind of...
For now, it's "Waterworth" with all titles related to undersea cable across the Atlantic, with the overall title referencing the latest huge project from Meta to put a cable right around the world...
Worryingly in the very wrong hands...
Such is the way these days...
At 11:30, out with Anne to celebrate our anniversary...
Bus into town...
...and a walk along to...
...the Cafe Royal for drinks...
...followed by a further walk to Waterloo Place...
...and Howie's...
...red wine...
...unpictured freshly baked rosemary focaccia...
Soup of the day, spiced with chilli, for Anne and Cullen Skink for me...
...while, mains wise, we both opted for the wild Scottish venison and roast beetroot casserole with sea salt roast potatoes....
Apple strudel choux buns with ice cream for Anne, Banoffee Pie for me...
A very enjoyable hour and a half indeed...
Out...
...and a walk around Calton Hill...
..and into Topping and Company Book Shop...
For some reason, this caught my eye...
Thought it might make a better title for this morning's work...
It's a quote from William Blake - the book itself is a strange crime thriller...
Anne alos partook of a book for upcoming holidays - a signed copy of "Sweet Sorrow"by David Nicholls, the author who wrote "One Day"...
Wikipedia tells me that Nicholl's six novels are about love and the experience of love in various life stages – with protagonists ranging from Douglas (58) at the end of his fourth novel Us (2014), to Charlie (16) at the start of his fifth novel Sweet Sorrow (2019), and Marnie (38) and Michael (42) in You Are Here (2024)...
A quick look in Vinyl Villains (no purchases) was followed by a tram and a bus back to the terminus and a walk down to Crispycat Towers...
...and, for me, some initial reading...
...and, following a slight remix, post having listened on the bus home, further listening to the new stuff, having chosen a different LP title (the new book) and track titles (chapters from the new book) since this morning...
Because of the way I work (much of the time creating without listening), it’s often like listening to someone else’s work when I listen back - especially for the first time...
Idiot...
Anyway, it’s not bad at all…
The work is, essentially, three or four field recordings, suitably slowed and reverbed; some 1982 Canadian Short Wave radio, deep in the distance; and two unprocessed guitar pieces recorded back in 2016 ("The Drone Effect" and "Landscapes", themselves originally from 1977), again suitably treated into unrecognisable-as-guitars-ness...
Started around 7am, finished around 9am, quick remix tonight post listen back on the bus home from town...
Fast work as ever…
And, with that, the day was gone...
Enjoyable...
Highlight of the Day : Creating and celebrating...
