Up early, final prep undertaken...
Into the car, along with all our stuff, at 9:15...
Petrol acquired and off we set, choosing the picturesque non-motorway, very lengthy, time-wise, route down the A68...
It had been our intention to lunch at Durham...
We arrived at the park and ride and just missed a bus into town - the half an hour wait for the next one, decided us to just press on...
A couple of further attempted lunch stops were aborted - this dismal truckstop was closed...
...while the half a mile further on services was so rammed with people, we parked then decided to just keep going...
Eventually, we arrived at the little town of Bedale as we finally left the M1...
...and popped into the Green Dragon for a tasty lunch
...followed by a walk around the main street...
...and church...
A welcome break after four hours of driving...
But we still had some moors to cross...
It was, in the main, much more picturesque than this...
We passed through Masham, Lofthouse and the previously visited Pately Bridge, finally arriving at Threshfield, just over the river from Grassington, at 15:41...
We had a nice room in the annex of the Old Hall Inn...
I had brought some stuff with me (along with the unpictured laptop)...
The house...
The Inn...
The countryside...
We walked over to Grassington...
...crossing the River Wharfe...
It wasn't quite as we'd remembered...
...as many of the buildings and shops had been amended...
..but more of that later, first, to The Black Horse for drinks...
...and then, on to the Devonshire (aka The Drovers Arms) for more drinks...
..and dinner...
Outside, the reason for the redressing of the shops and buildings...
An Xmas special of "All Creatures Great and Small" was being filmed...
We took a wander around the town before heading back over the bridge, spotting a wee thrush on the way...
...and a wee cat...
...which resembled neighbour Gayle's Rory Custard...
Home...
Some football, some surfing...
Lights out...
Highlight of the Day : Holiday started...
