The Tubes - Discography

Up early and working on a project which I've been intending to tackle for some time...

Inspired by yesterday's purchase of the Bitches Brew Box Set, I wanted to ensure all the Miles Davis in my collection was on the hard drives...

A considerable number of hours later, it was done...

Then, preparations were made for the arrival of chum Jorg and his son (our Godson) Ansem...

With all of this completed, it was off to my mum's...

"Have you not got your key son?" is one of her favourite phrases...

And biscuits rock her world...

A drive to Glasgow, arriving around 5:30 for tonight' much anticipated gig by The Tubes - on their 2nd UK tour in less than a year...

Dinner at a nearby Colombian restaurant...

...before heading to the Art School...

We were stamped in...

The diehards were already down the front...

No support and an excellent overture from the musical quartet - Roger Steen, Rick Anderson, Prairie Price and Dave Medd...

...before they were joined by Fee Waybill for an opening salvo of soul and funk...

C'est la Vie (Chuck Berry cover)
The Monkey Time
Tip of My Tongue
James Brown Medley

...followed by the first costume change...

Mr. Hate
Amnesia

Then, a superb comedy rant against the ubiquitous advertising and prescribing of big pharma...

Turn Me On

...which was followed by another surprising section of the set - a track from the "Now" album which I never thought I'd ever see played live - a Captain Beefheart cover - and even a song from the much unloved "final" album, "Love Bomb"...

Golden Boy
Gimme Dat Harp Boy (Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band cover)
Stella

As Fee prepared for "Mondo Bondage", the band rocked out - so much so that Anderson had to sit out the classic, whilst having broken strings on his bass changed...

Mondo Bondage

Another costume change was covered by a Roger Steen song...

Why Can't I Walk Away (Roger Steen)

Then out came the Quizmaster for...

What Do You Want From Life

...swiftly followed by a song I'd not heard played since Munich in 1979...

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (Gene Pitney cover)

Tonight's ballad was another track from "Remote Control" - one of sister Pam's faves...

Love's a Mystery (I Don't Understand)

Steen was on fire during the extended solo over the outro...

A quick solo rendition from Rick Anderson...

7+7 is (Love cover)

...and a drum solo from Prairie Prince...

...while Fee Waybill morphed into his alter ego Quay Lewd for the finale...

Tubes World Tour

...and, of course...

White Punks On Dope

Quay feigned boredom as the song went "on and on"...

..and at the "interminable" coda...

Superb...

...one of my all time fave songs...

At "Golden Boy", Mr Waybill was supposed to wear this cap but, instead, declared it rubbish and threw it out into the crowd...

Your correspondent now has it in his attic...

It looked better on the Exec Producer...

Back for the encore and Prairie Prince was pulling no punches re the US election...

She's a Beauty

I Saw Her Standing There (The Beatles cover)

Talk to Ya Later

TV Is King

And, re the curfew, it was all over bang on 10pm...

What a band, what a back catalogue, what non-stop entertainment...

Then, with our ears ringing, a dash to Edinburgh Airport to pick up the Germans...

And home for some drinks and chat...

Finally retiring at 2...

Quite a day...

Highlight of the Day : The Tubes! (and the Germans)...
