A second attempt today to meet up with Sid Smith...

So. this evening, I went along and caught the end of this...

The 2nd International Conference of the Progect Network for the study of Progressive Rock, 2016 at University of Edinburgh

...in the Atrium...

..at Alison House...

...and spent some time amongst Music Academics from around the world, discussing the ins and outs of, not only Prog Rock but music in general and its future or otherwise...

...and, of course, had a damn good chinwag with Sid Smith...

...and with Thomas Olsson who teaches music and film at Lund University in Sweden and Professor Georgina Born of Mansfield Collage Oxford - one time member of Henry Cow and cousin of Olivia Newton-John - so if you're ever looking for degrees of separation between Henry Cow and Cliff Richard, there you go...

After much excellent talk with Sid and Thomas re Yes's "Tales From Topographic Oceans" (in particular Rck Wakeman's agenda re that masterpiece of prog) and King Crimson (and the upcoming live album, box sets and tours), we, and a few of the Americans, made our way to a packed The Brass Monkey in Drummond Street for some of that Scotchlandic Beer...

But not before Thomas had captured Sid and I knowing what we liked, in our wardrobes...

More chat on Beatles, Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel, Stones, Stockhausen and Soft Machine, me lecturing in Sweden and then not, because I said I'd arm wrestle right handed - oh well - we finally called it a night around 1 am...

I walked down to Waverley Bridge in hope of an Airport Bus...

...but the next one wasn't for a good half hour - so, up to Princes St for an N26...

These are not my feet, rather those of a potential fellow passenger...

Embarked...

Out at the terminus and down the hill...

The beast had been about its business and was now slightly the worse for wear at 2 am...

...and so the bed was very welcome indeed...

Lights out...

Highlight of the day : Talking about music,...

Boffins from around the world, with unacceptable haircuts, stroking their chins re prog rock. I've added a link to the programme - it looks very interesting...
