We played...

Various – Oh Canada Vol 1

Struggled today with incessant coughing and loss of voice...

To Penicuik this evening to present nephew Alastair with his card and cash (as is the way with birthdays these days)...

Here he is with the two most important ladies in his life – his mum (sister Sheila) and his long time love, Julie...

Ali is a plumber – hence the mucky overalls...

Had a wee bit birthday cake with the team, joined by nephew Andy, who is still waiting for me to e-mail him the unmixed individual tracks from the new album for him to try out some remixes...

Then, on to Musselburgh, home of Mr Peri Urban – my first visit for many a year – good to see Mrs Urban again, though daughter Lily was already in her bed...

Last time we worked together was on this from Spring 2002...

Since then Peri’s had almost 600,000 hits on Youtube for his songs but, now, he wants to see what it’s like to play to real people – even if it’s just a small room with only a few audients to hand...

And so it’s our first rehearsal tonight for the performance on 4 November – we will be playing songs solely from Cloudland Blue Quartet’s “Soundingfall” album – as promoting your latest CD is the theme behind Jim Igoe’s Secret CDs night...

Despite my vocal shortcomings re the lurgi, we played through eleven songs in all, just to see if it might work...

Highlights, for me, were “My House Could Be Your Home” (surprisingly), “Please Stay With Us”, “So Long Kid”, “They Broke the Door Down” and Peri’s use of the e-bow on “We Drove”...

For the record the remaining songs played were “Blend”, “The Sound of the Fall” (both parts), “Never or Now”, “I Believed You Said We Dreamt” and “Tomorrow or the Day After Next”...

Eight or nine will make the cut for the 30 minute set...

We agreed to meet again on a weekly basis, with Peri to hone his guitar parts and backing vocals...

Home by midnight...

An enjoyable evening despite the roaring coughing induced headache...

Highlight of the Day : Playing again....
