Playlist
A day of listening but a much smaller playlist due to "concentrated" listening...
Out for breakfast...
Through the garden...
including the attempted save of the rododendron...
Down the hill...
To Cafe Vigo...
Yum...
Eggs on avocado on toast for Anne...
Bacon and onion omelet for me...
Back home, much of the rest of the day was taken up with listening to the recent CD choices from the boxes...
Way ahead of the ones I’ve posted on BlueSky re my stupid CD Box a day project, I relaxed with the SMSL CD Player & AKG K702s, enjoying Bobby Hutcherson with Herbie Hancock, Albert Stinson and Joe Chambers, recorded 21 July 1967, remastered by Rudy van Gelder in 2005 for Blue Note...
Portrait of an overweight egg-headed old man. He is wearing headphones which look ridiculous but which, reportedly, sound “superb”…
Then, Bassist Dave Kane’s Rabbit Project - “The Eye of the Duck”, on Edition (excellent jazz label), from 2009. Top notch quintet featuring Matthew Bourne on Fender Rhodes, Joost Hendricks on Drums, Simon Kaylor on Tenor Sax & Simon Beddoe on Trumpet...
Great sound…
I moved the wee table to the centre of the room so that I could reach everything in said room, without having to remove my headphones...
Pointless really, as the CD player is entirely portable...
Idiot...
Everyone in the household was doing what they like to do best…
Next, The Lemon Juice Quartet...
Absolutely LOVE this but they are, sadly, no more...
Bought in a tiny cellar bar in Krakow in 2003, post a stupendous performance...
Line up includes both master guitarist Eyol Maoz and master trumpeter Avishai E Cohen…
Ticket found inside the booklet!
Klub Indigo also, sadly, no more...
Another box chosen and CD there from also chosen...
Box 131, the Mahavishnu Orchestra to John McLaughlin...
Chose this from Eyal Moaz, the guitarist from the Lemon Juice Quartet...
Despite being produced by the quartet's bassist, this is far from a standard jazz disc...
But entertaining and leftfield it is...
Box 132, John McLaughlin to Brad Mehldau...
This classic from Jackie McLean...
Look at this line up...
Recorded September 1963...
Box 133, today's box, from Brad Mehldau to Charlie Mingus...
Chose this interesting disc from Christoph Merki...
The sax player's take on Jules Verne's "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea"...
Great sonics on this but I question the use of the word "ambient"...
Finally, tomorrow's box, No 134, from Mingus to Hank Mobley...
...from which I took the last CD in the box, by Mr Mobley...
A set recorded around the time of the first moon landing but makes no reference to it...
Even at that point Mobley had been around for a long time, but this is a great record, despite the presence of three relative unknowns in the line up...
Later, the beast's bonce was tamed...
...and a top notch prawn pasta was concocted by Anne...
An episode of "Bones" rounded off the day...
Some good feedback on last week's podcast involved info re Television's "Marquee Moon" - I was reminded that the B side wasn't an edit, but the full version, except in Mono - on checking my copy, bought on its release back in 1977, I found this to be correct...
Jeez oh - 49 years ago...
Bed pre midnight...
Just...
Highlight of the Day: Concentrated listening...
