Compiling and ranking can be fun...

Playlist

Up at 6.35 and decided today to compile my top 50 LPs of the year so far for 2026...

That took a little bit of time has to be said but here they are in groups of ten in alphabetical order by artists rather than the actual rundown of 60 to 1...

So, here are the albums from number 60 to 51...

50 to 41...

40 to 31...

30 to 21...

20 to 11...

and 10 to number 1, which remains Soft Machine's "Thirteen"...

Then the next CD box of the day, No 147, taking me from Kazumi Watanabe through to Tony Williams...

I chose "Breathing Room" by David Weiss, on the Fresh Sound New Talent label from Barcelona, which I purchased last year on our trip to Porto...

An excellent quintet, occasionally a sextet, set from 2001...

Meanwhile Anne had been at Zumba, here she is on her way back, having a chat with neighbour Moira about this and that...

The new coat rack arrived...

...along with the banister. The wood seems to match and the coat rack is flawless, unlike the one we had to send back...

Quick update on the machines and then...

...at two o'clock, out through the garden - looking good...

...and down the hill...

...for a bus into town...

...stopping in at FOPP - had look round but nothing enticed...

There was a discussion on BlueSky about the merits of Runrig, which, of course, there are none...

A tram over to Leith Walk...

...and, at the bottom of said long street, a picked up two albums, one by Osibisa and one by Norwegian  outfit, Søyr...

...which I then took home with me on tram and bus...

...via the foot of the street where Anne's mum's carehome is, where Anne was this afternoon,
but wasn't ready to leave as I passed...

So home, ripping and listening...

...and translating the text from inside the Norwegian disc to give me an idea what it was about...

The Osibisa, which cost me £3 when I thought it was going to be a quid, proved to be a bit of a disappointment...

Not to worry, for Tea tonight, half a pizza and some salad...

...enjoyed with some Pinot Noir from Rheinhessen...

...and the first two episodes of "Homeland " watched again, this time with Anne to see if she can get into it - as there are 96 episodes all told...

Then another CD box, No 148, the last in the Jazz A to Z section...

From Tony Williams through to the Zawinul Syndicate...

I chose Cassandra Wilson's collection, "Closer to You: The Pop Side"...

I don't class her as "jazz" per se, rather, like Norah Jones, just a very good singer with jazzy accompaniment...

This features covers of the likes of Miles Davis, Sting, The Monkees, The Band, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Ann Peebles, Bob Dylan and Glenn Campbell, a very good collection indeed...

I looked her up and found that she hasn't actually released an album for over 10 years now, her last LP came out in 2015...

Closed off the night with Miles Davis live at the Fillmore East in March 1970, an absolute cracker of an album...

...and then sorted out plans for tomorrow to pick up brother in law Keith, to take him to Livingston to the hospital there...

Just time for an episode of "Bones" before bed, hitting the sack at quarter to midnight...

Highlight of the Day: Compiling and being Out and About...
