Up early all packed apartment tidied...

Field recordings made in the garden...

Leaving our bags at reception, we ventured out into an initially overcast day...

...and started the walk which would lead us, eventually, to Altona, once a completely separate town from Hamburg...

At around 11 in the morning, on a Sunday, a band was blasting out Rolling Stones covers in a warehouse at the market...

On we went as things brightened up...

Some very nice converted ex-commercial properties were spotted along the way...

...and the views on to the river were also good...

Eventually, we climbed the hill up to the overlooking area and took a welcome seat...

Again, field recordings of the sounds of Hamburg were made...

Onwards, past stuff...

...and monuments...

...and good buildings...

..and statues...

..to the centre of Altona for a look around...

..and some breakfast...

No shopping though as the shops were still closed...

Anne liked these boots...

Soon, it was coffee time...

...at El Rojito...

...as the rain started...

...we took a train back to the centre of Hamburg and walked past the Hotel where Udo Lindenberg lives...

...and over to the lakeside for a seat, a look out over the water...

...and some drinks, including hot milk with honey for your correspondent...

...and coffee for his Exec Producer...

Then, making our way back to the apartment...

...but via a couple of tram journeys and a goodly amount of walking through areas we like...

The Reeperbahn, almost there...

"Our" church, in the distance...

We collected our bags and returned to the Italian restaurant where we'd dined on our first night...

I'd stuck to the water but moved from healthy arabiatta to not so healthy carbonara...

Uh oh...

Then, to the station for the train to the airport...

In good spirits, this had been a very good trip indeed...

No need now for our well-used map...

The usual waiting about...

..before boarding...

...and an uneventful flight home...

Airport bus and up the hill, new records in my bag...

...and looking forward to this...

Behind the door, more new music - 9 CDs of piano stuff from the Ruhr...

..and some far out John Cage, man...

Just after midnight, the holiday was declared, over...

Lights out...

Highlight of the Day : A walk to Altona...
