Boo, rain this morning...

...so, breakfast indoors...

Shoes waited...

Out...

...and up past St Michael's church...

...with these on the door...

Opposite it, a nice book shop...

...where a nice book was purchased...

Onwards, towards the Reeperbahn...

...with its weirdly shaped office block at No 1...

...and Udo Lindenburg references...

...and his very own Panik City multi-media experience, which we will experience in a couple of days, if not sooner...

This police station is named after me...

By chance, as we made our way up towards Sternschanzen, we stumbled across the lovely wee coffee shop we visited back in 2016...

We went in, of course...

Coffee was enjoyed...

...and a map with 13 record shops marked on it was perused...

The first, Back, was just round the corner...

..and the first purchases of the trip were made for just 8 of your European Euros...

...while Anne got something she liked...

Then to Rosen und Freiheit...

..which just had too much to take in...

...but I found an Ulrich Schnauss CD - paying around £15 - unlike me...

Onwards to Sternschanzen...

...and while no further shops were found at this stage, we did stop in at a nice Turkish place we'd sat outside last time...

Round the corner from there was Rekord...

...which provided the opportunity to get this for a further 2 Euros...

It was right on the old "border" between Hamburg and Altona...

Then to the old slaughterhouse district...

...where two record shops are situated opposite each other - one, Hansa, we visited last time, the other, whose name I do not know, was new and specialised in vinyl...

Got this in Hansa for a fiver...

..and, over the way, these thre at 3 each...

I did not realise this, which looked like it had 3CDs within, gad just one and two empty boxes and is actually a play with occasional music...

These two classical discs are good however...

Then we stumbled a cross a relocated Zardoz, which, last time was near rekord...

Packed and, again, full of useless to me overpriced vinyl...

But, at the door, a big stand of interesting bargains...

These four for 6 Euros...

On to Marktstrasse but only after a long walk in completely the wrong direction looking for it (as we didn't know what it was called...

Lovely Kaffee und Kuchen at Gretchen's Villa...

...before walking all the way back home - a lot of walking today - kind of setting a precedent for the rest of the trip - we did not rely on public transport as in 2016 as we were closer to "good stuff"...

Back home for a rest, before heading out again into the night and enjoying falafel for tea before taking another walk around the river bank...

We ended up at the Elbphilharmonie, where we are due to see Quator Danel on Saturday evening...

We did not realise you can go in and up for a view...

So we did, tickets in hand....

And the views were very good indeed...

...while the inside was pretty imprssive too...

Back down...

...via the longest escalator in the world (apparently)...

We were right in the middle of a festival of British music...

We will return...

Back home, I perused today's 13 purchases...

A good first full day...

Lights out...

highlight of the Day : Unexpected stumblings across stuff...
