Up at seven and the weather was looking particularly good...
Accordingly, dspite the actual forecast predicting in a contrarian fashion, we decided today would be the day to head to Dawlish...
...with its famous Black Swans...
...and other waterfowl...
But things were turning...
...and the dog at the shore predicted a storm...
...which turned out to be correct...
This, despite being rather wet, did provide the opportunity for some good pics...
...and, of course, disappointment for the Exec Producer...
As the rain eased, we headed back to the main town, with its famous Black Swans...
...and took refuge in the Old Mill Tea Rooms...
...for some tasty scones, cream and jam...
Then, with the weather kind of clearing, back to the railway station...
...with its own views...
...for the five minute journey down to Teignmouth (pronounced Tinmith apparently) - the last place in England to have been invaded by a foreign power...
The views from the train...
Our first sight in the town was this...
Charles Babbage (1791–1871), the mathematician, philosopher, inventor and mechanical engineer, who originated the idea of a programmable computer, also lived here for some years and was married in this church, St Michael the Arcangel...
While sunny and bright, it was also bitterly cold...
However, we walked along the front...
...and onto the pier...
In 1967, The Beatles stayed one night at The Royal Hotel on the seafront here, at the start of their filming of "Magical Mystery Tour"...
And the rock band Muse originated in the town and based their song "Falling Down" on their teenage years living there...
So there you go...
The views from the pier are good too...
Four of your English New Pence were lost here...
A wander around the town included a visit to Scene and Heard - no purchases but excellent overheard chat from the old guys at the counter - regarding lives as shepherds and having eaten worms in their younger days...
Back to the station...
...and the five minute journey back...
...to Dawlish...
...to the car and up to Starcross...
I was not aware of this place's existence when I titled my 1995 album, the last by Sombre Reptiles, "Starcrossfix" - here's a track...
We did not take the ferry to Exmouth...
...but headed home, via the Ginger Cat Deli in Exminster...
...from where a tasty quiche and a tasty pasty were both much enjoyed by your correspondent and his long suffering Exec Producer...
Home and some lounging around writing up yesterday's entry and watching rubbish on TV...
In the evening, a drive over to Exeter and to Tyepyedong Noodle Bar for our third top notch dinner out in a row...
We liked the clean, minimalist lines of the place...
...and the food was quick, superb and definitly spot-hitting...
Out for a constitutional around the town...
...as the rain started once more...
Home...
...after booking the nearby "The Lamb" for my birthday tea on Friday...
"Holby City" at eight - in England they do not have the rubbish "River City" pushing it back into the night...
Which is good...
Here's a weird thing - Dwalish means "Black Water"or "Devil's Water" and, coincidentally, in the car, the LP "Before and After Science" by Brian Eno popped up - with its track "Black Water"...
Except the track is called "Backwater"...
Oh well, put that religion based on coincidence back in its box...
Today's artwork then, is "Cream of the Devil's Water"...
Highlight of the Day : Out and about at the Devil's Water...
