Up around 5:30…
Checking the situation and relieved to find Portugal reportedly as good as back to normal, with the Metro in Porto due to start running at 6…
Great news…
Last minute downloading (including 3 new to me jazz items, 2 of which were subsequently deleted, plus a couple of Brandt Brauer Frick releases missing from the collection) and prepping of music for the trip - almost 800 items on the Samsung, including the, thus far, 117 2025 LPs of the day up until Sunday, which are also on the iPhone…
Also added the two CBQ Fripp & Eno variations LPs to the selection being taken…
Wrote this up and vowed to myself to write up the trip days as and when they happened - like the old days, when I used to hand write the days’ proceedings in a note book…
A good day yesterday re the latest Eno variations LP continued today…
Anne eventually rose around 7:30…
Readied my packing - various plugs and wires, the two phones, the speaker, glasses and sunglasses, money, book, passport etc etc…
Shut down the laptop post breakfast and packed everything away…
Out just after 9:30 and a walk down the hill, the airport bus arriving within seconds of us reaching the stop…
We were through security before 10…
Coffee and cake at Cafe Nero…
Lunches bought to take with us on the plane…
Boarding slightly delayed by freeloaders having to be charged for trying to get too large luggage items on board…
At 12:15 we were on the tarmac ready to board - this time yesterday I’d have said no way this would be happening…
Into our seats and took off just 15 minutes late…
A chance (almost but, thankfully, not) meeting...
Listening to the new Laura Pausini single and a Brandt Brauer Frick remix album from last year, of which I’d not been aware until a few hours ago…
Yesterday in Fopp I was cursing the advent of super easy illegal downloading which has kind of ruined the CD purchasing experience for me…
All but one of the almost 100 CDs on the living room shelf were acquired from charity shops or bargain bins and I now very rarely by a new CD, even the ones I want, as i can easily download almost anything for free, while, if I buy a new CD, I just rip it and listen to the file - so why shell out £15?
A dilemma - but one which is saving me an absolute fortune every day!
Anyway - post lunch and falling asleep while reading “Lake Wobegon Days”, to writing this on the plane, an hour into our 3.5 hour journey…
“Evening Star” checked out, the recently revamped mix…
Sounding good - ready to go - due in August or September I think…
Found us on the map, over the middle of the Bay of Biscay - no idea how that works with no internet…
We landed right on time, despite our late take off…
...but, due to a combination of Brexit and unco-ordinated train timetables, it was an hour later before our Metro to the city left the airport...
We alighted a station earlier than planned, which knocked 4 minutes off our walk to the apartment…
We were met by host Ana and were in and settled by 5:30…
The apartment was just the job for The Beast and its Exec Producer…
We were soon out exploring...
...and, before long, found ourselves in the courtyard of Pipa Velha enjoying beers and fish shaped snacks, to a soundtrack of the previously unknown to us Baxter Dury…
After two drinks, paid and out and over the road (Rua las Oliveiras) to Casa Guedes…
Beers and very big sandwiches (and a side of fries) were the order of the day…
Mine was the weirdest sandwich I’ve ever had - I had to ask for a spoon re the “soup” around it - a Porto speciality - a Francesinha...
A walk was then undertaken down to the historical district past churches, museums, monuments, statues and fountains…
Close to the Clerigos Tower, we enjoyed a coffee/frozen yoghurt...
...before making our way back, popping into a grocery store for beers, water and orange juice…
Back at the apartment, we enjoyed the remainder if the evening out on the balcony with Haydn Quartets and beers…
A good start to the holiday
Highlight of the Day : The Francesinha, even though it was weird...
