Here we go again - Friday...
4th of April...
70 years ago today, my mum and dad married...
...which was good...
Views from the office...
New release out and into the wild - the fifth "Dissolution" piano and ambience LP...
Also this morning, with Anne out at Zumba, and slightly smaller than normal intake re New Music Friday, due to download problems...
...I sat in the back room listening to this Alice Cooper double LP, which I originally bought on its release in 1973 and, then, again, three years ago today, in Chester...
At lunch time, on Anne's return, two episodes of "The Marlow Murder Club" brought that to a close...
This afternoon, some chat with Edward Spark re the download problem - which he was not experiencing...
He chastised me for being such a downloder...
I pointed out that I've bought 183 CDs so far this year..
To which Sparky replied "For none of which does any value go to the artist, as that was taken care of by the original purchaser."
"Apart from the ones I bought new..." I said "Let me count those..."
Two bought direct from the artist (Soft Machine at their gig) and one bought mounted on a magazine (The Wire Tapper)...
Not bad, 3 out of 183...
Then, I counted my downloads so far this year - which have "done the artists out of" £30 between them (£10 pm on Sp*tify) - wait, no, sorry, the rights holders - post Sp*tify's cut, so, around £20 if that - of which the artists might get £4 if they're lucky...
886 downloads - so that's 00.45 of one pence I've done the artists out of per LP...
In addition to CDs and downloads, I've also added 37 CBQ related items to the collection so far this year - for which I paid myself nothing...
Total new input so far in 2025 then, is 1,106...
That's just under 12 a day..
I remain out of control!!
Sparky opined "You'll not being able to keep up with your 'play a CD every day' - you'll be dead before you get to the end. Yoinks!"
I advised "It's on hiatus - I have too many other things to do. I really can't commit to any of these "I'm going to do this every day" things - it's hard enough just to write my diary. And the motivation is undermined by the fact that NO OTHER F&CKER GIVES A F*CKING F*CK"
"I was quite enjoying the play a CD every day thing though. Only downside was having to rip all the CD singles I've never got round to ripping LOL"
Advice from Eduardo "On that basis, slow down or stop all the stuff that's a lot of bollocks. Just listen to your CDs in any order, or as often or infrequently as you wish. Here's a novel idea. Just play the CDs on a CD player... as and when you can be arsed. Save some disk space..."
I agreed - "Yes - even though I was on a "play a track from each CD by date of acquisition, 36 a day", I didn't actually play 1 single CD - I played them from the hard drives. Oh f*ck, I need to start again - I was only 648 into the project..."
And then...
"Look at all my CDs (plus 100 in the living room)... And I bought another 3 yesterday…"
Sparky: "You need to choose a new chazzy wisely when you croak. This library cannot just be binned."
...and "My one and only CD is in there somewhere! Bet you can go straight to it as well. F*ck sake"
Me: "Actually - just took a look in a few places I thought it’d be. Can’t find it!! The search is on..."
Found it...
I had been fooled by it not having a spine...
Sparky : "And rare as hen's teeth that cover art too, cos it was almost immediately superseded by the girl drinking out the glass - - it's actually two girls, the one on the flip side is smoking a fag.
I am spineless. I've been told many a time
Maybe I'll do a follow-up EP to this one. There's a lot of maybes in my music schedule. Have you noticed? LOL."
I reminded him "Crazy wis..."
Oh yeah, forgot about them
Anyway, convo over, I took his advice and retired to the back room for #CDFriday and played a few pieces from this pile of some of my favourite classical box sets, which, in total, contain just under 100 CDs…
The eclectic selection started off with the idea that I could educate people who like prog rock that contemporary classical music was far more challenging and enjoyable (in the long run)...
I failed miserably...
Dolts...
And the playing was over...
Downstairs, as Anne prepped the tea, a visit from one of the neighbourhood's intelligent birds...
...who enjoyed the mealworms...
...and left none for anyone else...
Lovely butter chicken...
...with extra coriander for the gentleman...
"Beyond Paradise" enjoyed...
We have become my mum, spending hours watching murder mysteries...
Oh well...
To bed at 11:15...
Highlight of the Day : Anne's curry and music listening...
