Capital Models - 2023-07-02

Up and ready to release both "Auden" and the latest Creek archive recording...

...in a couple of hours...

Meanwhile, downloaded a load of new stuff including a plethora of 5.1 mixes of LPs I already own (see below)...

Also, prepping for the trip down to the borders re the much anticipated pre Wedding party gig for Capital Models...

Ready to load the car post new release buttons having been clicked...

Down to Tesco to get some provisions but ended up getting them at Lidl, post handing in some now unrequired kitchen stuff to the Cancer Research shop...

At 12:30, car loaded and off I went...

A couple of hours later, post a stop at Peebles, I was approaching the venue, the weather not looking too great...

I arrived around 2:45, 75 minutes ahead of the previously agreed time...

However, I found the marquee in which we'd be playing was only now in the very early stages of being erected...

I was in the middle of nowhere...

Given the conditions, I stayed in the car...

...and gave the new LP a listen (Capital Models rehearsals from Sunday having soundtracked the journey down)...

I suspected someone was filming the opening to an episode of "Casualty", such was the seeming lack of experience in marquee erection being shown...

John, Moira and Chloe arrived, followed by Keith and Elaine, Paul and finally Stu and so the whole gang was here...

...but the marquee was not...

Lovely surroundings though...

...and I had provisions...

Paul and Moira took a walk over to the nearby James Hogg monument, poet and shepherd...

...while, at last, progress was being made...

...under the sun...

At 6 pm we were finally able to commence the load in, albeit with no power yet in the tent and an hour after we should have been soundchecking...

...which finally happened around 7:20, 20 minutes after we ought to have started the first set...

Not to worry...

Plenty time...

The scene was set...

...and we agreed a start of 8pm but without losong any of our repertoire as we would run our first two sets together, take a 30 minute break and then run Vassia's and our final two sets together, for a long second set, thus finishing around 11, as was supposed to have happened...

Break time...

A beautiful night and good finally to be ready to go...

Provisions were partaken of, Keith and Elaine having a wee picnic out the back of Keith's car...

At 8, we were ready to go...

The first set went superbly, people up dancing, top notch appreciation and we were on good form...

Set List:

I'm Waiting for The Man
You're So Vain
Spinning Away
Big Yellow Taxi
Daydream Believer
Cracklin' Rosie
Blue Suede Shoes

Rockin' in the Free World
Virginia Plain
Folsom Prison Blues
The Jean Genie
Brown Sugar

Crazy Horses

Between sets break around 8:45...

...with non-alcoholic beer, and stovies from the excellent wedding caterer...

Set two at around 9:15, kicking off with Vassia's set, which brought the house down...

...followed by our final two sets run together, which, in the early stages of rehearsals was going to be our only set of the night...

I always find it strange to have people dancing in front of me when I play...

Set List:

Vassia's Set
Proud Mary
Come Together
Stuck In the Middle With You
At Last
Let's Stick Together

A Hard Rains A-Gonna Fall
Bad Moon Rising

Rock'n'Roll

On introducing "Mrs Robinson" and saying it was our last song, as we didn't know any more, a young girl shouted "just play one you've already played"

"good idea" we said...

And so...

The Jean Genie (Encore)

Our encore finished just after 11...

...followed by the take down...

All packed and I left the site around 11:35 for the journey home, arriving back around 12:50, making good time...

A very enjoyable day indeed, despite all the delays...

I'd say the performance and the audience reception were both a lot better than we might have expected...

All in all then, a success...

Which is always good!

Highlight of the Day : Performing...
