Tony Williams - Angel Street
Cloudland Blue Quartet - Twentytwentyone
Norah Jones - Day Breaks
Friday - and today ought to have been the day of the Secret Santa and the Xmas Party...
Both cancelled...
Up, nonetheless...
...and some work done before breakfast and then, post breakfast, out, down the hill and onto the bus...
...and into town...
...alighting at St Andrew Square...
A short walk to the Portrait Gallery...
...and viewing the painting of Nicola Benedetti, which we saw being created last night on "Portrait Artist of the Year"....
...followed by a walk through the rest of the gallery...
I recorded items which appealed...
....the three surgeons...
...Tilda Swinton...
...a lady who reconstructs how cadavers may have looked whilst alive...
...a driver's helmet in glass...
..writers and poets...
...this by old favourite, Calum Colvin...
...the loathsome Muriel Gray, pictured due to the art as opposed to the subject...
...erm, the lift shaft...
...not sure of the subject here....
...Horse through a lift shaft...
...a stair window...
Into an exhibition of work by Alison Watt, "A Portrait Without Likeness"...
...superbly painted items which feature works "made in response to the practice of the celebrated eighteenth-century portrait artist Allan Ramsay (1713-84)"...
...the gruesome execution of Charles I...
...two portraits of James I/VI...
...at different stages in his life...
...and his mum, Mary, Queen of Scots...
...a tragic figure indeed...
Further rooms - these from the age of Victoria...
...the, sadly currently shut, library...
...and the main hall once again...
A wee look at the shop and then, out...
Very enjoyable...
To lunch, at Cafe Centro...
Lobster Ravioli for Anne...
...and a very nice pizza indeed for your correspondent...
...followed by...
...lovely cannoli...
A pop in to Fopp while Anne had a pop in to M&S...
Both resulted in some purchases...
On th walk back prior to the bus home, a pop in to The Foundry for an Xmas drink with some unpictured colleagues...
Sadly, the speaker is malfunctioning and will require to be returned...
This CD, however, is very nice indeed...
A message from chums Sid and Debbie advising spare tickets for a thing at Edinburgh Castle (which, in hindsight, turned out to be the final opportunity to witness it)...
A quick turnaround and back out and back down the hill...
...and a bus back into town and a walk up the Mound to the Castle for a nice light show...
...incorporating excellent views of the city by night...
...and a tour around the illuminated edifice...
My favourite item was probably this...
Onwards...
Down...
...and out...
...and views of the city form the other side of the castle...
Home for an improvised tea...
Ended the day with some measure of frustration re the software used to record the podcasts but, eventually got some of it done...
Enjoyed too, a little of the Graham Norton Show...
Lights out...
Even on the castle...
Highlight of the day : Out and about...
