The view from the office on my birthday...

Over to the market - making the mistake of entering by the ground floor and all the fish...

Upstairs...

...for breakfast...

Out...

...and getting our bearings...

The cathedral...

Anne liked the wild flowers...

...and the limes...

On to the Jardines de Pereda...

...from where we were enticed through the archway of the Banco de Santander...

...to the Mercado Municipal del Este...

...and out the other side...

...and along to the impressive Plaza Velarde/Plaza Porticada...

Backtracking...

...then doubling back through the square and up left towards the Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón...

We were doing our usual of just walking around taking in the sights...

...including the Iglesia Parroquial de Santa Lucía...

We did not realise at the time this was Plaza Cañadío, which is jumping in the evenings but was pretty quiet at this point...

We headed for the water, passing this on the way...

A beautiful sunny day...

Jaunty...

The beast on its birthday with its Exec Producer, down at the shore...

As a birthday treat, we made our way to...

...Discos Cucos, which seemed to be the only record shop in Santander...

Much local music was perused but, in the end, I came a way with an old album by Christina Rosenvinge, whom I discovered in January in Purto Banus - and a Villa Lobos disc of guitar music...

The EP was happy to exit...

Lunch beckoned, so we walked back down through Plaza Cañadío...

...to Gallofa for some tasty tortilla and top notch coffee...

Back down to the waterside...

...and a possible visit to the cathedral...

...but it was just closing for the three hour siesta...

A beer back near the apartment at the same place as last night, La Polar 1880 - the eats were not as good...

I was fine with the fish based stuff...

A shoe shop was visited - with considerably more outlay than for my two birthday discs..

Back to the apartment for recouperation and some more coffee...

No rest for the wicked though and we were soon off out again...

We confirmed the nearby Modern Art gallery was closed for renovations...

...and headed to the reopened Cathedral for a look around...

We paid our Euro each and ventured inside...

Since it was my birthday, I got to do this...

There was a history of Santander and a scale model of the city around three hundred years ago...

And now, more beer and wine...

Disappointingly, I was not allowed to partake of a three Euro tin of anchovies...

Onward for more beer and wine...

...and street art...

...and jazz bars...

To the Taj Mahal - just as it opened...

More beer and wine...

...and very tasty fayre...

On the long walk back, this wee monkey entertained...

As we approached the apartment, darkness was falling...

..and a nightcap was enjoyed at Plaza de la Esperanza...

An old man...

...needed his bed...

A good birthday...

Highlight of the Day : Birthday...
