Last day - booo!

Breakfast comprised everything left in the apartment...

The view from the office this morning...

Out - but not away yet...

Our host very kindly allowed us to make our final exit later than planned - so we left out bags and took one last walk...

Down to Lavapies...

...and on...

...through virgin territory, noting these comedy cakes...

To the main road...

...and along towards Atocha...

...past the Reina Sofia...

..we came to the Caixa Forum, first spotted last night...

...and, with nothing else on the agenda, we decided to venture in...

The usual agreement re pics solely containing works of art...

...and those with people featured...

Ooh, a Gerhard Richter!!

OK I have to feature just this one...

Downstairs...

The extensive and wide-ranging collection of American Art Collector, Duncan Phillips was on display...

Painting through the centuries...

Picasso...

Top notch...

On the floor below, not quite so enticing but still ok...

A look around the shop...

These are small versions of the panels adorning the neighbouring building with the greenery up its side...

Out and a sit down enjoyed, watching mounted police in training...

...and a look back to the museum...

...before heading up the street of bookstalls once again...

...and peering over the wall into the botanical gardens...

Ice cream was required as the hot, hot heat kicked in...

Anne tried to stab me with hers...

...while mine led us into the Retiro Gardens for the last time...

To the lake...

Anne wanted to see if we could see the wee feral cats again - we could, although, disappointingly, no sign of the kitten with the arrow markings we'd seen on our visit last Saturday...

The cats seemed quite happy living with their avian chums, the ducks and magpies...

Time to go...

The walk back to the apartment was now a familiar one...

Past Reina Sofia for the last time...

..and the Conservatory of Music...

...and on back home...

...to our quite excellent apartment, which had been the ideal centre for our re-discovery of Madrid...

Final views...

...and the journey home began...

Three trains...

...to the airport...

...and a Burger King very much enjoyed as we waited...

All on time...

..and an uneventful journey home...

Not sure what these towers were in the distance...

After 2.5 hours we were coming in over Edinburgh...

The usual Edinburgh Airport pfaffing around re passport control and the appearance of hold luggage ensued, then, out and an airport bus to the bottom of Crispycat Hill...

A good sunset as we approached Crispycat Towers...

...and in...

...where the ripping and saving of photographs commenced...

All over...

An excellent trip...

Highlight of the day : Just one last art gallery...

It was very nice indeed. I see we share a similar sense of humour...
