Up early and out along Brick Lane...
...then left towards Liverpool St...
...noting the current trend here to keep facades but not to actually build anything proper behind them...
To Artillery Lane and The Breakfast Club for, erm, breakfast...
I surprised myself by opting for the healthy option of oats with yoghurt, banana, cinnamon and fresh fruit - while Anne had something she likes...
As we left...
...people had started to queue out the door...
To Liverpool St and a tube...
...to Tottenham Court Road...
...where my first purchase was a 2 CD set of Pianoforte Sonatas by Clementi at Foyle's Books...
On into Soho, Anne off to do stuff she likes...
At Reckless, a nice disc of Wolfgang Rihm's music for string trio was snapped up...
Nothing took my fancy at either Sister ray or Phonica but, at Harold Moores they were having a half price sale of their 2nd hand CDs in the basement...
In I went...
And emerged with an excellent haul of jazz by Kuhn, Bailey and EST and classical discs by Maida, Asheim, Mertens and Schulhoff - and some Russian Chamber Music to boot...
We reconvened in the Worksattion - cafe slash bike repair shop for coffee...
...and carried out some research re our next move...
A tube to Lambeth...
...and a long walk to Newport Street and Damien Hirst's new gallery...
Apparently, he bought the whole street...
The 1st floor will be "Pharmacy 2" but isn't open just yet. On the ground and 2nd floors were some stunning works by British artist John Hoyland...
He preferred to be called a painter rather than an abstract artist...
I was liking his work very much indeed...
A look in the bookshop before heading upstairs...
...past Pharmacy 2
The workmanship on the stairway was superb...
Upstairs, later works...
These next, I liked not so much...
The last works on display were from the 80's...
This, "Lucky Star 7.2.82" (34 years old tomorrow) was my favourite of the exhibition...
One more look at the stairwell...
Then, out and along to...
...the gallery shop...
Slightly different from your average Art Gallery emporium...
These skulls were going for around £36,000 each...
Anne stopped me from buying a badge for 75p...
We walked back towards Waterloo...
...past the Imperial War Museum...
...and the Old Vic...
...and to Auberge for drinks...
...and a look at my haul for the day...
Back out into the cold wind...
...and a bus to Picadilly Circus...
...past Lancaster House...
...and St Martins in the Field...
..and up Regent Street...
We had researched a good pub - an Indian was booked for later on - and so, walked back up into Soho...
...to The John Snow...
..named after the Cholera Epidemic solver, not the newsreader...
A good time was had for a couple of hours and we left the establishment slightly the worse for wear...
A short walk took us to Frith Street and the Dehli Brasserie for a tip top Indian meal...
Yum-tastic...
Out into the pouring rain and a walk back to Picadilly Circus...
...to take the Tube back to Aldgate East and "home"...
Another good day...
Highlight of the Day : Everything really...
