Keiser - Opera Arias
The cathedral was on good form this morning...
At lunchtime, a walk down to Stockbridge - with Fettes College in the distance...
Through the wide streets of the New Town...
...past the Danish Cultural Centre - a place never before noticed...
...and a rather old building which is now a Thai restaurant...
In the Shelter shop, a disc of opera arias and short concertos by Herr Reinhard Keiser, considered, shortly after his death, to have been the equal of Handel and Telemann...
In an obituary upon his death in 1739, his colleague Johann Mattheson (who almost killed Handel during an argument at a performance of one of Matheson's opera's) described Keiser as "the greatest opera composer in the world"...
Now mainly forgotten...
Much like One Direction will be in a few years no doubt...
Back up the hill...
...and round the various gardens of the New Town crescents...
In the evening, another good rehearsal with Kat and Keith - this time I played bass...
We will meet again in two weeks - recording set for early May...
Lights out...
Highlight of the Day : Playing the bass...
