Capital Models - 2011
A bright but cold day...
This afternoon, in e-mails from Jim Park, original drummer in Capital Models, he advised he’d be unable to attend tonight’s “jam”, as the band attempted to reconvene after a hiatus of 366 months...
And so the quartet, comprising your correspondent on vocals and acoustic guitar, Angus Bolton on lovely red jazzy guitar...
...Jamie Frain on electric bass...
....and Keith Apter on drum kit...
....which last played as a band in August 1980, met up at “The Music Box”, a purpose-built rehearsal, recording and performing complex at Stevenson College just after six o’clock...
Jamie had drawn up a short list of fourteen songs (of the twenty four we played during the 11 month lifespan of the band) for us to try...
It was surprising how quickly we were able to bang out recognisable versions of each of these...
On the downside, I found it difficult to sing due to my ongoing attack of the lurgi situation but made a reasonable job of it...
The mood in the room was very light-hearted and I think it’s safe to say we all “had a blast”...
It took us around 70 minutes to run through the 40 minutes or so “set”, what with false starts and realisations we were playing songs in entirely erroneous keys...
A coffee break and a chat and a laugh and then back to “work”...
For the second run through, which took are rather more spritely 50 minutes, my guitar was plugged in rather than just being used as a guide for me...
Here's the second set...
(Update 2024 - now, due to the vagaries of the internet, long gone, however, this session was finally released on Bandcamp on 4 October 2024)
By the end of the night we were sounding “ok”...
Packed up, next week booked and out to the car park by nine...
Gus headed off to his Golf Club Quiz while Keith, Jamie and I visited the Corstorphine Inn and, over drinks, agreed tonight had been very enjoyable indeed...
Home to Anne, Meg the Black Cat and some cheese on toast...
Rock’n’roll...
Yours sincerely, David Douglas Punk Rock (DDPR)....
Highlight of the Day : Capital Models playing again...
