A day of walking…

Up around 6 and writing this up and adding the pics took 90 minutes…

By which time Anne was awake…

Out for breakfast at 8:30 - same place as yesterday but added a Florentine biscuit to the order…

Then, a 20 minute walk to the Sao Bento railway station for the bus to Foz…

Starting from the Cathedral, a 30 minute drive along the river took us to the park...

...with a 15 minute walk to the entrance…

Beautiful - with lots of birds, including wild chickens, and lots of young people running around…

Across the park and out…

...for another 30 minute walk to the art gallery...

But at 36 Euros entry (incl 50% discount for your correspondent), we passed…

...although we did have a look around the bookshop and a CD by Porto locals, Soccer Sensibles was acquired...

The lady at the counter said she knew them and they were good...

Out...

Another 25 minutes’ walk took us to a busy nearby bakery, Padaria Ribeiro, for consolation coffees and cakes…

25 minutes’ more walking got us down to the beach and we walked out to the lighthouse in a further 25 mins...

Some possible album covers taken of the lighthouse graffiti…

As well as numerous attempts at good pics of the crashing waves…

Another 25 mins and a rest and a beer in a park close to the bus stop…

Half an hour later, onto the bus and half an hour back to the cathedral, which we walked past on our way to the Luis bridge…

Over to the other side…

And a walk down the hill…

A half hour wander along the bank...

...until we stopped for some further refreshment and possibly too many churros, including much spillage of castor sugar and chocolate…

Then we found a food market where we ought to have had our lunch…

Back to the bridge around 4:30 and, this time, we crossed the river via the lower section…

On “our” side, we climbed back up the hill to the Tower and University...

...and were home on the balcony by 5:15, following a possible “the keys are lost” scenario but they had gone into the lining of Anne’s bag…

In all, around 5 and a half hours’ walking so far today - it’s what holidays are for!

At 6:30, the search was on again for a dinner venue…

We eventually found a place near the tower on Praça de Dona Filipa de Lencastre for beers, tuna salad and steak with an egg on it…

A walk home via the grocery store for milk and biscuits and coffees enjoyed back home…

We retired around 10:30 after an enjoyable but exhausting day, including around 7 hours of walking about…

But, as this was forecast to be the only day without rain, we’d made the most of it!

Highlight of the Day : Foz, the bridge and the river…
