This afternoon, to Glasgow...

...and dinner in the Candleriggs/Merchant City district, at, new to us, The Indian Cottage...

 Superb...

Out, under blue skies...

...for the brief walk round to the City Halls...

Chums/Mum's chums Lex & Moira were off to London today to visit daughter Lindsay and husband/son-in-law Guy and so could not attend tonight's concert...

So they had very kindly sent us their tickets for this...

The young man in the red jersey in the pic below is the son of Maestro Bloch...

Pre-gig, I partook of a CD of two symphonies by Peter Maxwell Davies, performed by the SCO and one of which was recorded at this very venue...

Into the hall...

Anne's cousin, Alison Green, was one of two bassoonists performing this evening...

Indeed, she played bassoon and contrabassoon...

Talented lady...

The tune up...

Two, in fact, three pieces in the first half...

Frenchman Thierry Escaich's "out there" "Baroque Song" and Jean-Guihen Queyras playing Haydn's 2nd Cello Concerto (in D) (the Scotsman review appears to have misheard the Haydn), with an encore of J S Bach's Prelude from his 3rd Cello Suite...

Half time...

If the first half had been great, the second surpassed it, with an invigorating energetic rendition of Beethoven's Symphony No 3 ‘Eroica’...

...lasting almost an hour...

All too soon though, it was over...

...and, unfortunately, the crowd was too great for us to negotiate our way to the stage to get a chance to talk to Alison...

By the time we got there, only these two performers remained...

Not to worry...

A wonderful evening...

A drive back along the M8 and greeted by Tiger the Cat upon our arrival home...

...where this randomly joined the collection...

...and this was listened to pre bed...

...and this, which had arrived in the post, was saved for later...

Excellent start to the weekend...

Highlight of the Day : Beethoven's third...
