A walk to Fopp at lunchtime today...

...with the intention of securing another late 60s/early 70's Herbie Mann album...

To no avail...

Late afternoon, out for drinks as Kris-with-a-K was visiting from far off Singapore...

Bernardo, Spike and Kris...

Gaz, Raymondo, TP, CK, Matty and Wheelers...

Matty, still perched atop a dangerous stool, Wheelers, Bernardo and Spike...

Kristof and Giles...

Home, perhaps just slightly the worse for wear, to find these awaiting...

No time to listen though...

A quick tea and off back out to Tynecastle for Hearts' big European adventure...

A nice walk to the ground...

...and then, a visit to the memorial garden...

One of these plaques is for my much missed musicking maestro Mr Jamie Frain...

...while this statue...

...commemorates the Hearts team who, during WWI were top of the league half way through but went off to fight on the continent - few returned...

Tonight's Maltese opponents were glimpsed...

We were early enough to witness the warm up...

These good views will soon be gone as a new, larger stand is planned...

Good tail on the mascot...

Bottom right in the silver outfit, our old college chum Ann Park, now a bigwig at the home of the JTs...

The travelling support...

Kick off...

An expectant home support...

Had the Maltese scored in the first five minutes, as they might have, or, had Hearts converted their penalty just before half time, I believe the Jam Tarts would have triumphed...

0-0 at half time and into the second half...

Oh dear...

1-0 to Birkirkara...

Hearts now needed two goals...

The away fans celebrated...

Oh dear, 2-0 and Hearts needed three goals with 30 minutes to play....

The chap standing up shouted himself hoarse as he railed and remonstrated at his team...

He left before the end...

...like many others...

...they missed Sammon's late goal and a spirited but, ultimately, fruitless attempt to bag another two...

Jubilation for the men from Malta...

Dejection for the men from Tynecastle...

Pieces of discarded pie for the seagulls...

Just as well it's only a game - off to Russia for Birkirkara, no doubt to be trounced..

Anne advised Hearts were now "concentrating on the league"...

Ah, the old Queen of the South tactic...

Home...

This wee monkey had to be ejected...

Ended the day with "Newsnight" and "This Week"...

...and Elgar & Vaughan Williams on the cans...

Highlight of the day : Despite everything, probably the footie...
