A good Saturday...

Initially, listening to music suggested by online and physical reading...

Watched from outside by Fang the Black cat's brother...

Into town late afternoon with Anne to meet with Dr Prog for a concert by these Dutch youngsters...

..in this beautiful church...

The audience, your correspondent and his companions included, were amazed by the professionalism of the Hadyn Jeugd Strijkorkest in their renditions of works by Vivaldi, Hindemith, Glass and Tchaikovsky - with a cheeky wee encore of  contemporary pop tunes arranged for string orchestra...

Then, Dr Prog and I made our way up to the festival theatre...

..and enjoyed opening act The Alyn Cosker Group, feature ex Earthworks pianist Steve Hamilton.

Cosker is an amazing drummer too...

But they were eclipsed by John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension...

The 74 year od jazz fusion guitar virtuoso has lost none of his dexterity it seems since the Mahavishnu Orchestra's heyday in the 1970's...

Featuring Gary Husband on keys and occasional drums (last seen by me taking the chair in UK a few years ago having had only the soundcheck in which to rehearse), the quartet played their way through 90 minutes of their most recent material...

...before throwing in an old Mahavishnu tune (You Know You Know) as a final encore...

A delighted beast was about its business around midnight on Crispycat Hill...

...even though it doesn't look delighted...

Excellent concerts of live music...

To bed with Johnny Mac on the cans...

Highlight of the Day : John McLaughlin...
