Summer continues...
..and, today, a new phone entered the fray, though this is not it...
Back home and the majority of the evening was spent mucking about with the phone and watching tonight's World Cup match between England and Uruguay...
England are as good as out, having lost for the second time in a row by 2-1...
The things is, they actually played better in this tournament than they have in previous Euro and World Cup finals when they made it out of the group stages...
The difference is, this time, their group has been the equivalent of those which Scotland used to encounter back in the 70's and 80's when they were continually sent home on the basis of goal difference (as opposed to this England's nil points thus far)...
England's place in the World rankings certainly seems to have been held artificially high over the past decade or so as they earn points from playing against dreadful opposition in qualifiers for both major tournaments solely due to their artificially high ranking putting them in the top pots when it comes to the draws for these...
So, a self perpetuating myth...
I can only hope that this time, despite playing well, they're abject failure will result in their demotion by a few places to a more realistic level...
One England player working as a pundit on ITV said he'd thought Costa Rica (ranked 28th pre tournament, one place below Scotland) would be the "easy" team in the group...
Turns out it's actually England...
Game over...
Highlight of the Day : New phone and Schadenfreude...
