Up and out at 8am (7am UK time) for a walk and to get breakfast provisions while Anne slept on...

Past the nearby European Patents Office...

..and the Deutsches Museum...

..and over the Ludwigsbrucke at Zweibruckenstrasse...

...a route I took home from the centre many times when I lived in this city 34 years ago...

Just over the bridge was an art house cinema, where I recall having seen "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" one night in the summer of '79...

And here it was, still going strong - and guess what was playing...

A 34 year run?  Unbelievable...

Other stalwarts seemed to include Visconti's "Death in Venice" as seen on CP's shelves yesterday...

Truth be told, I was looking for the place I stayed in back then but I'd come out without a map and it turned out my memory wasn't quite as good as I thought - I was soon at Wienerplatz when I'd wanted to find Rosenheimerplatz...

Not to worry...

As the rain came on I made my way back down and over the bridge...

I did find the first ever McDonald's I visited...

Back then, it was a scarcity in Europe - there were a couple in Munich (US forces were still stationed here) and one near the Hauptbahnhof in Cologne...

In hindsight, perhaps the number of cheeseburgers eaten whilst resident in Munich was the start of my ballooning...

Back home, a selection of Semmeln (breakfast rolls) in my hand...

...on which were enjoyed the various meats and cheeses purchased yesterday...

...with coffee made in CP's wee machine on the stove...

...and milk apparently from Brodski and Penny - back home at Crispycat Towers being looked after by Meg the Black Cat...

At 10 out for a walk...

...towards and through the Isartor...

...to the centre...

...past the Schneider Weisses Brauhaus - where people (tourists) were inside enjoying large amounts of beer on a Sunday morning...

...and through the Alter Hof...

...where we overheard a tour guide explain to some Japanese tourists about how it was Hitler came to power in Germany...

...onwards...

...past the Munchener Hofbrauhaus...

...and the State Ballet...

...and the Opera House...

...where a film set in the early 60's was being shot...

Along the front of the Bavarian State Theatre...

...and the Residenz...

The text adorning the theatre states "Reality is for those who can't hold on to their dreams"...

Slightly better than the ad I saw later in an unpictured bank window which put forward the idea that "Träume brauchen Kredit" (dreams need credit)...

Anyway, onward through the worsening rain...

...from which we took shelter in the Burkhof Cafe near the Theatinerkirche...

Shouldn't have had that cream...

Back out, past the Feldherrnhalle at Odeonsplatz...

...past some galleries...

...through Wittelsbacherplatz again, with the weather improving...

...to our target, the Brandhorst Museum...

When Frau Brandhorst (heiress to the Henkel fortune) died, Herr Brandhost offered their extensive contemporary art collection to the city, on the provision they build a suitable venue near the other main art galleries...

And so it was done and a beautiful building it is too...

...outside and in...

The main exhibition was of works by Ed Ruscha...

...but the museum has a purpose built room for works by Cy Twombly...

...as well as a huge number of Warhols...

..and this impressive Damien Hirst work...

...and a "quiet space", where you can just sit and take in the changing skies and surroundings...

Back out after much enjoyment...

...round past the Alte Pinakothek, which we did not visit...

...to the Pinkothek der Moderne...

...which was undergoing a refurb and so closed until after we'd left the city...

A disappointed Mr CBQ left the scene...

But, round the corner, was a temporary exhibition to cheer him once more...

...the roof of which provided good views of the city...

...and potential album covers...

...inside was a small collection...

...and digital access to the entire collection if you were so inclined...

This was the scene of a visit...

...ten years ago...

We crossed over the street to get the correct perspective on the soldier adorning the temporary installation...

...and found this burned out car...

An art piece, it was originally situated on the upmarket Maximilianstrasse but, after complaints, was moved to its new position opposite the Modern Art Gallery...

A tape recording plays on a loop inside...

Then, purely by chance, we came across the Katzentempel cafe...

The link takes you to better pics than these but these are our impressions...

A healthy lunch was enjoyed...

Such a cafe in the UK would surely be impossible? It seems not...

A good find...

Back down Schellingstrasse...

...to the Ludwigskirche...

...and inside...

Then, past the University...

...and over to the English Gardens...

...and to the Haus der Kunst...

The only art we saw here were the bamboo sticks and pots up between the pillars, installed by celebrated Chinese artist Ai Weiwei...

Inside seemed to be empty...

So...

...it was time for...

Cake...

Back home, for some fruit and lounging around listening to yesterday's purchases

...before going round the corner to Fraunhoferstrasse for tea, having found this well reviewed traditional restaurant on the net...

OK, not the best looking food in the world but very tasty nonetheless...

Post dinner constitutional amongst the trams...

Back down Fraunhoferstrasse, noting interesting shop windows...

...and more trams...

Home by 8:30...

...and one of CP's DVDs; "Breaking and Entering", directed by Anthony Minghella - very enjoyable indeed...

Another good day...

Highlight of the Day : Brandhorst...
