Once again I find myself writing this over a week on from the day...
Anyway, here goes...
July? Gone...
Up stupidly early but, you know, it was the weekend...
Listening to new stuff...
Uploading the podcast...
First thing views...
Enjoying dipping into this...
Generally speaking, I dip into books - it's been a very long time since I read a book - there is something stopping me from investing too much time into anything - mortality perhaps...
I am a dilettante it seems...
We need some work done - a picture was taken (or, rather, some pictures, of which this was the best, were taken) with the "big" camera...
Out and over to the Saturday place...
And parked by the wooden squirrel...
Then, a walk re the not mentioned here but recently having occurred and still extant problem with the Exec Producer's knee...
Our route took us past the old Scottish Widows building - a Basil Spence work and, therefore, protected but, in reality, a bit of an eyesore for a lot of people...
It sits opposite the Commonwealth pool - built for the 1970 Commonwealth Games and scene of much fun and malarky in Mr Quartet's formative years...
It too is a bit of an eyesore for many...
Onwards and round to Newington where a visit to almost every charity shop was made as part of the "walk"...
A handful of items was partaken of at the BHF - all others proved fruitless...
A coffee (and shortbread) at Kilimanjaro...
...followed by a further walk down to Blackwell's Books where £15 was shelled out for a half price 3CD set of Maconchy's Complete String Quartets - I already have the first disc as a separate release...
Then, back to the car, past this old school...
...and this Wine Merchant, the owner of which also owns one of my paintings from 1993...
I wonder if he still has it...
The wooden squirrel had protected the Cloudland Mobile well...
Home, to rip, to listen...
I have decided to keep my single CD of Maconchy - most probably due to finding these cuttings inside it, which I had not noted before...
Anyway, today's bounty comprised a 2CD set of Brazilian singer songwriting, famous (in Brazil anyway)...
A 2CD live set of a Brazilian post punk band whose singer died of aids in 1996, post having left the group in an earlier fit of pique. They were, apparently, huge in Brazil - this live set was released 5 years after their break up...
The above counted as "3 for £1"...
A 4CD set of 12" mixes from the late 70s and early 80s - worth the entry fee of £1.98 for "Spacer" alone...
And, here, the Maconchy...
13 String quartets written between 1932 and 1984...
Excellent...
For tea tonight, a trip to the chippy - and discovered that "Roberto's" (son of "Benny" - actually the establishment was/is called "Bene's" - as in "good" - our chip shop of choice when living at St Mary St off the Royal Mile back in 1979/80) has been bought by something called "Passion"...
Their method of cooking and presenting fish suppers urned out to be good...
Later, out and a walk to Tynecastle....
...to the field of dreams...
The Exec Producer was fully expecting her beloved Jam Tarts to be right royally humped by the Glasgow Celtic...
...post the presentation of the trophy for having won last year's league in which Queen of the South remain (for now)...
But, no, Hearts scored first...
...and, when Celtic equalised in the second half, the EP advised she would "take the draw"...
But the the JTs scored again - deliciously, in the final minute, leaving no time for a come back (apart form the nerve wracking 4 extra minutes added on for stoppages)...
..and a glorious triumph was celebrated...
Best time she's had in the last 18 months the EP opined...
The team applauded their "12th man", the crowd...
And then, it was all over...
A walk back to the car and a drive home...
An excellent end to a good day...
Highlight of the Day : Hearts 2 Celtic 1...
