Capital Models - Live at the Dean
Jason Lytle - Dept of Disappearance
Various - Time Machine : A Vertigo Retrospective
Fraser Drummond - Shoreline
Listening today to the Capital Models covers sets, in kind of preparation for the band getting back together tomorrow...
News that all five branches of HMV in Edinburgh are to close once their stock is exhausted - and on a news report this evening, I saw that their reductions are now up to 50% from the 25% they were earlier today...
Two branches will remain in Glasgow along with both Fopps there and the Edinburgh Fopp - which I visited today and purchased the latest from Grandaddy's Jason Lytle, "Dept of Disappearance", along with a 3CD box of tracks on the Vertigo label (of which I created a copy a few years ago)...
These enjoyed tonight, along with "Death in Paradise" and Charlie Booker's irreverant and very funny "Weekly Wipe"...
On a sad note though, news in the inbox this morning from Impossible Songs of the passing of fellow musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, gardener and general all round good guy, Mr Fraser Drummond...
Since becoming ill a few years a go now, I think he had some really good times - and got to write up tales of his many travels across the globe - although that doesn't quite make up for future time now missed...
I remember seeing him at a gig of mine around the time sister Pam was quite ill...
Despite his own illness, he gave off such a feeling of positivity and enthusiasm for everything...
I remember too the first time I saw him perform, a newcomer set at Out of the Bedroom which I think I reviewed - I'm not sure if my comparison of his smoky voice to that of Chris Rea was taken as the compliment I meant...
And one time, sitting in my car with him outside a venue listening to some new music he'd made...
And his fascinating tales of flowers and how they came to have the names they have...
And his sax playing at the Impossibles' wedding...
And now gone...
And this added to the news, untold here but provided on Saturday by my mum, of the untimely death of Mikey Harkness, youngest brother of ten years gone Sandy - with both of whom many a Sunday night in the early seventies was spent playing football with a tennis ball in the Church Hall along with minister's son Rory and middle brother Kenny...
And time goes on...
Highlight of the Day : Memories...
