Up at 6:22...

...to write this up and send messages to Capital Models re a proposed wedding gig in the summer - the bride wishes to song some songs with us - so, prepping a list of our repertoire from which she can pick...

Spider view...

Breakfast was porridge-tastic...

Anne popped out for various errands, I listened to some Haydn...

...and re-set up her artist's easel...

Good skies...

...as I expanded the actual "40 good songs" playlist to 50 as per yesterday's entry and gave quite a few of them a listen...

More new home made soup for lunch...

Was looking through my boxes of card sleeve albums and came across the Rollin' Bunker's EP bought in Lille 10 years ago in April - see here - which got me looking for new stuff by them and by the band we were supposed to see that night, Klink Clock - who we chanced upon a couple of nights later - see here - I was successful and, in all, six or so new things entered the collection...

Also, re the Fehlfarben CD that arrived, there was an advert for Tapete Records roster and I partook of a couple of new things from Black Heino, Fehlfarben's support when we saw them in Berlin in 2018...

In the box, I also found a Bill Bruford DVD, which was very much enjoyed for the first time ever...

...which led me to downloading loadsa Bill and connected stuff into the collection (see below re "today's new music" - a thing I will try and keep going)...

Later, in the kitchen the EP was executively producing tasty curry for tea...

Prep was soundtracked by Django Bates' take on Sgt Pepper while we watched Sheffield Wednesday put Newcastle Utd out of the cup - football is always best with the sound down...

...although it had to be up for the Hearts 1-1 in Paisley draw with St Mirren highlights - Queens threw away 3 points going down 2-1 after having been 1-0 up at Alloa...

A new manager was appointed though, Marvin Bartley - let's see how he gets on...

Curry...

Yumtastic...

Soundtracked by Klink Clock...

...and Dutch Uncles...

Then, we tried a film "White Noise" but rejected it and went instead for an Italian whodunnit - "7 Women and a Murder"...

Eventually, I fell asleep and was ushered off to bed...

Oh well...

Well = Bene in Italian...

I had not noticed that before...

Anyway, lights out...

Highlight of the Day : Anne's curry...

I am at a loss as to what this could be about...

Any ideas?

Up around 6:40 and downloading new music as, of course, Friday is new music day (yes, I know it seems like very day is new music day for me but I mean new new music - i.e. new releases)...

These are what I ended up with...

...of which Gabriel, Moby, Pop, Earth, Jongen and Secret Piece are the new releases today...

The new Creek archive release was set free into the wild...

And some time was spent writing yesterday's entry...

Off to the place I go to lose, having, unsurprisingly, given the festive season, not lost but, rather, gained...

Home for a solo breakfast as Anne set off for a day of walking, chatting, coffeeing, lunching etc etc with Lynn...

Then I worked on notes for the overall Creek discography using these pics of cassette covers provided by Stu Cobley last night...

Then to compiling the podcast and sorting out the running order...

The remains of yesterday's soup for lunch and then to recording the podcast...

...and the postie brought the new Fehlfarben album...

...which, once the podcast was done, was very much enjoyed...

First thing this morning, I'd received an e-mail from erstwhile Charnelhouse, Call Me Clive and Crazy Wisdom colleague Malcolm Logan, asking for contact details for Count Brodski re a job reference...

This led me late this afternoon to searching "Crazy Wisdom" in the diary, which, in turn, led me to finding this list of "subjectively good" songs created on 11 June 2005...

David Bowie - "Heroes"
Coldplay - The Scientist
Brian Eno - Always Returning
Yes - Awaken
Dido - Here With Me
John Wetton - Battle Lines
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
Fripp & Eno - Evening Star
Alice Cooper - School's Out
King Crimson - Starless

Jellyfish - The King Is Half Undressed
Roxy Music - A Song For Europe
Tangerine Dream - Mysterious Semblance at the Strand of Nightmares

Peter Gabriel - I Grieve
Roger Waters - What God Wants pt III
Roy Harper - When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease
UK - Thirty Years
Uriah Heep - Stealin'
Cockney Rebel - Tumbling Down

Rush - The Spirit Of Radio
Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade Of Pale
Michael Rother - Sonnenrad
New Order - Regret
Craig Armstrong/Evan Dando - Wake Up In New York
Soft Cell - Say Hello Wave Goodbye
Dar Williams - February
David Sylvian - Before The Bullfight
Pet Shop Boys - Shameless
Lou Reed - Sad Song

Simple Minds - The American
The Blue Nile - Let's Go Out Tonight
Moby - Porcelain
Jane Siberry - Love Is Everything
Electric Light Orchestra - One Summer Dream
Alice Peacock - Some Things Get Lost
The Cure - The Figurehead
Neil Young - Cortez The Killer
Rainbow - Stargazer
Joy Division - Decades

I did some searching around various other playlists of "top songs" I've created in the intervening years and, from those, I could increase this list 40 to a good 50, by adding these...

Max Richter - On The Nature Of Daylight
Alpha Rev - Colder Months
The Killers - Human
Laura Pausini - Bellissimo Cosi'
Justin Currie - Baby, You Survived
Bend Sinister - Best Of You
Flying Colors - The Fury Of My Love
Taylor Swift - Blank Space
Ingrid Michaelson - I Remember Her
Grandaddy - The Boat Is In The Barn

And so, a good 50 was indeed compiled...

Anne finally returned around 4:30...

A tasty casserole was prepared...

Yum!

This evening, a veritable cornucopia of TV was watched...

"Scot Squad", "Father Brown", "Madam Blanc Mysteries", "Death in Paradise" and "The Graham Norton Show" all entertained before we called it a night...

Highlight of the Day : Fave programmes returning...

It was a good year...

Then, compiled my Top 50, 30, 20, 10 and 5 for 1983...

Then, listening to my top LP of that year, Eno's "Apollo" and reading about it and listening to the additional LP created in 2019...

Lunchtime - soup and a sandwich once again...

And watching the new series of "Jack Ryan" - up to the standards of the first 2 seasons which we enjoyed in lockdown...

Anne went to take her mum to the hairdresser once again and I did some filing re the CDs displaced from the living room shelf by the Glasgow purchases...

Then to trying to compile this week's podcast - I still haven't decided on the format or length...

And the tracks for inclusion are piling up of course re all the new stuff coming in...

Also updated this for the start of the year and, as ever, from now, will try and keep it up to date daily...

We'll see how that goes...

Listening too to new demos from Blue Sun Chasing - he has asked me to proffer my opinions thereon...

Anne returned - a present from nephew Andy in the boot of the car...

Salmon and roast potatoes with carrots for tea...

Some TV and some listening...

Two of my LPs of 2019...

Also noting on Twitter more top notch photos from the man who took the one of the sun the other day...

The International Space Station between us and the moon - the craft is 1,000 times closer to the Earth than the moon and the crater behind it is 53 miles across...

Amazing...

Later on, "Knives Out : Glass Onion" very much enjoyed, followed by an old episode of "What We Do in the Shadows" then off to bed...

A good day, all told...

Highlight of the Day : Knives Out probably...

Four days in already...

Up around 7:30...

A dreich day...

...but, inside it was nice...

To ripping and further listening to yesterday's purchases, plus updating the monthly collages for 2022 and my entry for Hogmanay...

Here they are...

Love Music x 2, BHF x 3, Missing x 9, Mono  x 4...

A man came to service the burglar alarm - only 6 months late - he was nice though but we will still apply for some money back re lack of service...

At lunchtime, watching new pirate thing "Our Flag Means Death"...

Not bad...

Tonight we were off out to celebrate grand nephew Kerr's 18th - so we had to pick our picks from the menu re pre-ordering...

Meanwhile, the postie brought this - bought on E-Bay from old music shop chum Bert Muirhead - should be good...

Lovely home made potato, carrot and leek soup and a sandwich for lunch...

...was followed by the second half of  "The Ghost of Canterville" for 2 hours and then finishing off the ripping...

Did some tagging re new expanded versions recently downloaded of the first five Uriah Heep LPs...

And then it was time to get over to Senior's venue choice, The Old Colliery, for a slap up birthday tea, with Sheila and Senior...

...nephews Andy (Kerr's dad) and Ali and Kerr's other granny...

(Mr CBQ's main slap up feed)...

Erm...

Also in attendance, Kerr's mum Lisa, an unpictured me and an unpictured Anne and, of course, the birthday boy himself...

Yes, there was cake and, yes, it was good...

As we bade farewell to everyone, Anne and I gave Andy and Kerr a lift into Shandwicks on Charlotte Square where further good times with the young man's chums were on the agenda...

We picked neighbour Gayle up on the drive up the hill and enjoyed a chat with her and partner Kevin at the back gate re the demise of Rory Custard - poor wee man...

Back inside, some telly and music listening and then bed...

2023 is rushing along!

Highlight of the Day : Birthday tea...
