Pickering, a good bar and a good Indian...

Playlist

Up and, as predicted a while back, pouring with rain...

Breakfast at 8...

The view from the office this morning...

Yum!

No lunch required...

Packed and out and on the road towards Scarborough - well not really as, first, we'd decided to head south to the little town of Pickering...

Anne enticed me out of the car as we arrived at the castle...

...and we enjoyed a walk around as the rain had stopped...

...or had it?

We walked all the way around the walls...

...and back to the car and into the centre and parked near the station...

Further walkabout...

A lovely town indeed...

...and two further additions to the collection...

Over the river...

...we found a museum of ephemera...

...which took up over an hour of our time with its myriad room, artifacts and information...

Barrel sizes...

This sale of work...

...raised this much in today's money - unbelievable!

Flirting with fans...

A typewriter with separate keys for lower and upper case...

Unhygienic ice cream consumption for a massive profit...

We were about to leave when we noted more outside the main house...

Including the photography of Sydney Smith...

..and how to keep eggs fresh through the winter months...

A great find...

Back to the car and off to Scarborough...

We arrived at the Monico Guest House around 1 and were given a warm welcome...

Unpacked and out - just down the road was the hotel where I stayed with my mum, dad and sisters back in the late 60's/early 70's...

...overlooking Peasholm Park...

From here, we walked down to the North Bay...

Despite the bleak weather, there were people on the beach...

We took refuge from the rain in The Watermark Cafe - cakes for lunch...

...with coffee and hot chocolate...

Hardy souls were attempting to surf...

Back out into the rain, we climbed the cliff...

Driech...

...and made our way through the less than salubrious parts of Scarborough, in search of the "town centre"...

Eventually, we foudn a great wee bar called "The Craft Bar" and enjoyed a couple of hours out of the rain, reheating and being refreshed by German bier...

...and another...

I did not visit the record shop opposite....

By the time we left the bar was full...

We walked up the Northway in the direction of home, through the driving wind and rain and stopped in at Nishat Spice...

Soft drinks as no licence...

The curries were superb...

...and rounded off a good, if somewhat wet, day...

Highlight of the Day : Pickering, a good bar and a good Indian...
