Last day of the trip...

The view from the office this morning...

Jorg...

...and his former self - in Scotland last century...

Breakfast...

...then, out for a walk around the village that was my home for a goodly amount of time (and the Exec Producer's for slightly shorter time) back in 1980/81...

Jorg gave us a tour, filling us in on all the local political and planning struggles that have led to the stream now, for the most part, being underground, various buildings being built, or not built, or bought or not bought and bridges removed and built elsewhere...

There was also a modicum of shopping...

...mainly for chocolate...

All of these places were flooded after the famous dam-busters raids of the second world war...

Jorg also lived in two houses (at different times) in this street...

We once stayed with him here...

...and he was brought up here...

And then, time for goodbyes once again...

Two years ago, pics in roughly the same spot featured Jorg's mum, who died suddenly last Christmas...

Off we went in our wee car...

We stopped at Limburg for lunch...

Yum!

Onwards along the autobahn...

But we soon missed a turn-off and found ourselves once again down by the Mosel...

...and driving through the countryside on smaller roads...

...which was infinitely more enjoyable and less stressful...

We stumbled across a wee place called Kastellaun...

...and enjoyed our last drink of the holiday...

...before pressing on, through the windfarms, to the airport...

Just over 600 miles covered...

Goodbye cinquecento...

Sorry we never trusted you enough to let your top down...

Coffee at the airport...

...and the inevitable boring two hour wait...

...before finally boarding around 10:15...

An uneventful two hour flight, an airport bus and back home...

All over for another five years re Documenta...

Highlight of the Day : Limburg and Kastellaun...

Why is there a red telephone box in that town in Germant where Jorg lives?? ☎️ 🤷‍♀️ 🤔

Felsberg, of which Gensungen is a part, the village where I spent time as an English assistant, was twinned with Cheddar for around 10 years. That may be the connection. The box itself doesn't work - it advertises a nearby beauty salon...
