De-icing to no avail...

Snowed in again and, to be honest, spent the day waiting to take mum and Sheila to Luton Airport...

This involved continuously checking the relevant websites - while Anne reported from Edinburgh that the snow was pelting down there...

To dig the car out, we had to get a spade from Pam's shed at the bottom of her garden...

..whose lock required ample useage of de-icer...

Eventually, post the additional use of a kettle full of boiling water, the spade was released...

Meanwhile Lesley, closely followed by Julie and her daughter Libby all popped by to bid us a fond farewell...

The Easyjet website insisted the flight to Edinburgh was going (despite all our evidence from family members in Scotland to the contrary)...

At 3:30 we set off - getting out of Pam's street was a little hairy but, beyond that roads were "not bad"...

Once at the airport I waited for a call from Sheila to advise all was ok...

The call came, advising the flight was in fact cancelled...

An hour and a half after setting off we were back home to implement either:-

plan b - leave by car right now and drive overnight
or
plan c - leave asap tomorrow morning and drive all day...

With the assistance of visitor Michelle, who had popped by to see Pam while we were at the airport, and Annie and nephew Andrew on the phone from Scotland, we opted for plan c...

And so our first family only get together since 1978 continued for one more night...

I cooked...

..we ate, we had some wine, we watched TV and we headed to the land of nod earlier than usual re tomorrow's early start...

Highlight of the Day : Almost going home...
