Slept in till 8:30…
It had been raining overnight…
Wrote this up, then, at 9:30, round to Carrefour for rolls and to investigate coffee pods…
A petrol incident necessitated a fire engine and foam scenario…
Breakfast...
...and discussing with Edward Spark via Whatsapp, an attempt to boost his new LP by messaging CBQ followers on Bandcamp and offering them the previously unreleased CBQ mixes (60 mins) if they make a purchase from Ed’s page re the LP. Agreed and will be done when home…
Out at 10:40...
...and a walk to the nearby M HKA gallery of modern art, which opened at 11...
...and where we saved 22 Euros re their free entry offer, due to construction of a new exhibit…
Result…
In the reception/reading area, a piece by Josef Beuys caught our eye…
Exhibits by, amongst others (and I will expand on this once home) Ozgur Kar, Panamarenko, Barbara Kruger and David Claerbout were enjoyed, along with ensemble pieces “The Situation is Fluid” and an exhibition on one time leftfield Antwerp cinema venue, King Kong…
On the top floor, “Everything has been said, not done” by Antwerp Art Graduation Prize winner, Julia Troscher, along with its sound design by Pieter Vandenhoudt, particularly impressed…
Out and back to Carrefour for lunch provisions enjoyed at home…
In the afternoon, we decided on a dry run re getting back to the station for our train to the airport, early on Wednesday morning…
Just as well, as we took the No 1 going in the wrong direction…
After a correction, we were soon at the Opera House and it was a short walk to the station…
I had to buy another ticket (15 of the 22 Euros saved at M HKA down the pan) as, the one we prebooked for a pensioner via Omio, despite having stated travelling at 8:19, precludes pre 9am travel…
Anyway, all sorted and out for a tram to the port district…
Once again, we took it in the wrong direction but, having jumped off and having awaited a No 24 going the way we wanted, we arrived at our target area around 3:15…
An enjoyable walk up the quayside ensued, diverted somewhat by a stupid bike race…
Thirty minutes later we are at the Antwerpse Brow Compagnie and enjoyed a couple of their beers in the open air…
Several large groups of partying drinkers were in attendance and much beer was wasted…
But not by us…
A post beer walk towards the famous Havenhuis ensued...
...and, then, a further walk back to the tram stop, a No 24 back to the Opera and a No 1 back to the apartment area, both without “you’re going the wrong way” incidents…
Home for a rest at 5:30…
Out again at 6:30 and looking for a dinner venue…
After much wandering around in the rain, we settled on a nearby, busy, Turkish place for beers and wraps…
At 8 we were back at De Nieuwe Linde for more beers…
Home to relax by 9…
At 10, we gave up trying to work the TV...
...while some young boys outside, possibly an Antwerp boy band, mucked about, posing for flash photos next to a big black car they did not own…
To bed at 10:30, post another enjoyable but tiring day…
Highlight of the Day : M HKA…
