If pins had dropped...

Playlist
Dar Williams - Edinburgh Setlist 2009
Dido - Girl Who Got Away
Dar Williams - Alternative Setlist

Some housekeeping first thing then a drive to Glasgow with the Exec Producer for tonight's show by fave singer-songwriter, Dar Williams - first time in the UK for five years, her last visit having been cancelled by the great winter of 2010 weather scenario...

We parked, as ever, over near Byres Road and walked down to the main street...

...where, with Avenue G full, we investigated nearby Crolla's for brunch...

Very tasty...

Then, inevitably, to Fopp...

...where I partook of discs by Paul McCartney, John Cale and Dido - hey, don't knock it...

A book for Anne was joined in the bag by a biography of The Blue Nile by Allan Brown - looking forward to that...

We bought SmartCards for the underground and made our way to the centre...

In HMV at Buchanan Street, I warmed to them, having always considered a visit a waste of time but it seems a lot better now...

Discs by Paul Simon, The Velvet Underground and DJ Hell partaken of, with Bob Dylan, Wim Mertens and Keith Emerson making their way back to the racks...

With Anne off doing what she likes doing, I walked to Love Music and, after a trawl through their stock, decided on a promo disc of Fehlfarben keyboardist, Pyrolator's album "Neuland" from a couple of years back...

We'd agreed to meet down at Mono at two so I took a slightly different route from normal...

Through George Square...

...I once worked at the ugly building behind the lion - good memories in fact...

...through Merchant City...

..and the Youth Theatre complex...

...to Mono bang on two, where Anne had arrived a minute or so before...

Coffees but, being a vegan place, only soya milk - not the best...

A look round but nothing bought then a walk to the nearby Print Workshop, passing this interesting office on the way...

Upstairs, an exhibition, "In Abstraction", by Hetty Haxworth, Aimee Henderson and Rosalind Lawless was reasonably enjoyed...

This doodle on a piece of paper had been sold for £350 - Anne's mum would have had a field day!

This Haxworth was our agreed favourite...

Down...

The gallery is opposite the demolition site previously pictured here...

We wondered where all this stuff will go...

A walk to the Gallery of Modern Art...

A complete waste of time to be honest - one of the worst sets of works I've seen - can't even recall what it all was but it was dreadful...

On to the Bierhalle for a quick beer, much enjoyed...

...before catching the Clockwork Orange back to Byres Road for a look around, visiting our favourite furniture oblique nickknack ninnie shop near Ashton Lane, before heading for an early dinner at Ashoka...

Yum...

Back to the car and to Sauchiehall St, where we passed the time in the warmth of the car listening to the Dido purchase...

Into the CCA for Ms Williams..

front row seats for an excellent show and an excellent, respectful audience - if pins had been dropped, we would have heard them hit the floor...

Support came from Irish duo Malojian, whose CD was purchased at half time on the strength of their performance...

Then, the stage was set for Dar Williams...

A wonderful set of songs and stories - many of our favourites being presented - along with some unrecorded covers here's a taster...

Dar talks about her latest album...

...and here, the closer of her set "When I Was a Boy"...

Finally, a backstage pic with Malojian, posted on her Facebook page...

Post gig, into the car and home but not to bed, after midnight, started listening and ripping...

And so it goes on...

Highlight of the day : Dar Wiliams live again after too long...
