Miles Davis - Panthalassa
Up early and to work on the February playlists - tracks from albums released in Februaries from 1965 to 2014...
Also, forgot to mention the securing on Wednesday of very expensive indeed tickets to see King Crimson in Edinburgh in September...
Finally got round to listening this morning to the new live album recorded on their US Tour last year...
While many are saying great things about this line up, to be honest I don't see much difference in what they're doing to what Yes are doing now - i.e. going out and satisfying the fans by playing their back catalogue, albeit with a different singer...
However, the live set is a lot longer than the content of the album so perhaps I am wrong and they will surprise when Anne and I see them...
In the post, this arrived from China - not the recorder but its hat...
This will assist with field recordings, on which I've been working re CBQ since the start of the year...
After much mucking about, mainly ensuring my entire Miles Davis collection is ripped to hard drives, I set off for the library at 11, Dr Prog having advised of his unavailability due to laptop problems...
As you can see, my long term weight loss project has a long way to go and events later in the day meant that today was not a particularly good day for matters of the reduction variety...
But what is life for, if not to have fun - and I remain almost two stones lighter than I was a couple of years ago...
However, being a further two stones lighter would probably give me more time to listen to all the CDs I buy before they inevitably end up in a skip...
Anyway, Fela Kuti and two Earle Brown boxes handed back and a third EB box borrowed, containing another three CDs of very probably unlistenable modern classical music - not so modern now I suppose, as it was written in the 50s and 60s...
Back to the car, past the University...
Home around 12:20 and a quick turnaround and walking down Crispycat Hill with the EP, heading back into town on the bus...
We were on a mission (only stopping off to purchase a card for sister Sheila) to be at The Bonham Hotel for 1:15...
..to meet up with Count Brodski and Lady Penelope for the first time in far too long...
An excellent long, boozy lunch was very much enjoyed...
...and the chat was top notch too...
Penny won the prize for best pom pom...
A walk to the West End, where we bade farewell to our old chums and caught another bus home - checking the footie scores on the way...
Hearts continued their dominance of the Scottish 2nd tier, with a 3-2 win away at Livingston...
Meanwhile, Queen of the South knocked holders St Johnstone out of the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 win in Dumfries - reaching the Quarter Finals for the first time since the glorious run to the final in 2008...
A great sunset was under way as we alighted at the top of Crispycat Hill...
Back home, some CD filing awaited my attention...
Later on episode three of the not very good "Broadchurch" was watched, along with episodes nine and ten of the far superior French series, "Spiral", one of the best things on telly right now...
...and then the highlights of Queens' much deserved win against their Premier League opponents from Perth...
And that's about it...
Ended the day as I began - with Miles Davis...
Lights out...
Highlight of the Day : Much needed catch up with Brodski and the Pennster...
