To the machines...
The day opened with feedback from Edward Spark re my recent work, both by way of collaborations and, shall we say, re-imaginings, of his short piece "The Kissing Tree"...
Some initial addressing of that was undertaken...
Then, here was the question of breakfast...
Which was answered with this...
So...
Here's what happened...
Mr S gave me the stems for "The Kissing Tree", with a view to me "doing something" re a collab and I got carried away (as per always!!) and created something which has two of his stems in the background, treated in such a way that they don't really sound like his stems...
So that was the first 20 minute thing. It was a collab, in that, I was changing his stuff and adding in changed versions of stuff from me...
Then, I had an idea to add in the sax parts form Matt LeGroulx's videos and that became a stupidly long 52 minute thing but, really, a new thing with, as the set I finished off yesterday shows, has three separate "pieces", one from each of us, within, which, when mixed together form the whole "new" piece...
I admit that my laziness and impatience almost always lead me to work fast and with huge chance factors, mainly involving "changing" things that already exist rather then working on "new" things that might work - although the field recordings in the piece are, indeed, new...
It doesn't always work out of course...
In fact, when listening back yesterday, to the third version (40 mins plus the three separated out tracks), I thought to myself, "no-one in their right mind is going to listen to this" and "fucksake, everything I do is a pile of shite"...
But today it would probably sound ok...
The drum based mix (with croes) I did was a separate thing as it is actually "The Kissing Tree" but with me collaborating - mainly in the form of drums, guitars, street noise and, erm, crows LOL...
I listened to that first thing this morning and enjoyed it but, now, in light of the feedback received, a revised mix was part of my work for today...
...plus a cover with Edward Spark's name first for "Precipitation" - which, really, just puts me in the middle - which is fine by me...
It'll be a 40 minute LP in its own right credited to the 3 of us as above...
Added to that will be each of our "solo" tracks...
Sparky liked that plan...
While it contains small parts of The Kissing Tree, it doesn't sound anything like it (to my ears anyway)...
I envisage a note amongst the credits along the lines of "contains elements of "The Kissing Tree" by Edward Spark from the album "All I Had to Do Was Cope" and "Industrial Facades (1975-1995)" by Cloudland Blue Quartet" from the LP "Disquietmusik III"" or some such...
And I advised, if there's something in particular he wants me to do, he needs to actually tell me rather than just give me stems and say "here you go, see what you can do with these", otherwise I'm liable to go off at a tangent and bury his sounds in crow noise!
Within an hour of his first message wondering what was actually happening, an acceptable mix of "The Kissing Tree" (with very much subdued crows) was in the Dropbox for him...
Service with a smile...
After all today's work, here's what I have re "Precipitation"...
Then, Pickleball" for Anne...
Action over the way...
On Anne's return more TV...
But, also, trying to work out exactly what may have happened for there to have been an annoyingly different outcome to a "deal" I have been involved in for some 15 years now...
The attempted working out has been, so far, to no avail...
Anyway...
Tasty prawn pasta tea...
And we careered towards the end of "Scandal"...
Lights out on a difficult day...
