The last day of a trip is not really a day of a trip...

It's a wait to travel and then travelling...

Nonetheless, up...

Packing...

Out...

...for breakfast...

I opted again for the porridge and banana...

...while Anne went for toast and jam...

A walk around the neighbourhood and lunch for the train secured...

Back to the hotel and gathered our bags, handed back the keycards and exited...

Round the corner for the 157 to Marble Arch...

Arrived as expected...

Another bus, the 290, driven by the slowest driver in Christendom, took us, eventually, to King's Cross...

We found a wee cafe and coffees were enjoyed...

We'd wanted cake but it was savouries only, so top notch rolls enjoyed instead and our pre bought lunch for the train would be moved back...

When I told Anne I'd been charged £19 for the 2 coffees and 2 rolls, as soon as I said it, it didn't seem right compared to the menu we'd ordered from...

I returned and questioned the bill...

"Oh sorry here's £3"...

"And here's the bill, it was £14"

I said "But I paid £19?"

"Here's another £1"

"But £19-£14 is £5"...

"Here's another £1"...

Dear oh dear...

Into the station and with half an hour to go, the interminable wait to discover the relevant platform...

On and no problems re seats etc...

Ready to roll, back in Edinburgh at 5:15 or so..

Or so...

Or so we thought...

Signal failure outside Peterborough - trains queued up but eventually we got going, but over an hour's delay...

Compo kicks in at 60 minutes  -  wait, no actually 30 minutes - I recall the train down arrived, rather conveniently for LNER, exactly 29 minutes late...

Anyway, it looked like we'd now get to Edinburgh around 6:20 or so...

Then, an announcement...

The train would terminate at Newcastle...

Apparently a £60,000+ pa train driver could not be found to hang around for 90 minutes to drive our train from Newcastle to Edinburgh...

The train to Edinburgh in front of us was therefore delayed at Newcastle until we arrived and everyone had to switch trains...

We were now looking at a 2 hour delay = 100% refund...

Anne made the claim on her phone as we made our convoluted way to Edinburgh...

Here we are in East Lothian, over 6 hours after setting off on a 4.5 hour journey...

We finally arrived just after 7...

Then, home via two more buses...

Unpacking and sorting stuff out...

Machines fired up...

Some ripping and listening...

...and to bed around midnight, after catching up with "Ghosts" and something else which I've forgotten already...

Good to be home but loads to write up here, two podcasts to do, tax work to do, rehearsing for performances to do, new releases to prepare etc etc etc...

Onwards...

Highlight of the Day: Finally getting home...
