Up and working pre a trip...
Around 10, off to that Glasgow - firstly to Garrowhill - where my dad was brought up and many a childhood Sunday was spent...
Here, opposite the house, the recently refurbished and reopened tennis courts. where my mum and dad once played...
This church is, I think, a replacement for the one in Garrowhill Park, Mure Memorial Church, where my grandfather was the organist for many years...
I frightened a group of carers in a children's creche by wandering in and asking the whereabouts of the school I was looking for...
Into the primary school next door...
The original school was opened in 1938 - it was rebuilt in 2014...
Here's the old one...
...where my dad spent his primary years...
It was supposed to be a full circle of buildings but they only managed half of them before the war started and the project was brought to a halt and, post war, never restarted....
I delivered the bible, presented here to my dad in 1939/40, to the current deputy head...
It will go into the archives to be displayed in their 90th year celebrations....
Then, a drive through the countryside to Clarkston - where I lived when I was born - for around 14 months, at this very house...
To the nearby Williamwood Church, where my mum and dad attended from when they moved her in 1955 until taking up residence in Paisley five years later...
Here I met up with some lovely people to present to them a Psaltar and Hymnary. which my dad received from the choir when he left in July 1960...
Here, a history of said choir...
And here, the (redacted) page from the baptism records, showing me being "done" on 2 August 1959...
I realise now that these were most likely taken on that very day...
Thanks indeed to Margaret Robertson for her research...
...and for her kind offer for me to play here at the end of August in some shape or form...
The church has not been changed at all since the time my mum and dad left the neighbourhood...
...and so, this is where...
...The Beast was baptised all those decades ago...
Anne reckoned I was lucky not to have been struck by lightning...
She is very cheeky...
I was even allowed to play a few notes on the church piano - no doubt they will turn up somewhere at some point...
Into Glasgow and a free parking spot located on the South side of the river, followed by a walk over the Clyde...
...towards the Troon...
...and to ono, where, of course, some purchases were made with my ill-gotten gains from the Dockers last weekend...
This is great...
This is no bad...
This is hellish...
This is good...
..and these are both top notch...
I did not buy this...
...but can easily constitute it at home from tracks already in the library...
A walk along to Missing...
...but nothing further found today...
Back to the car - a twenty five minute walk in the pouring rain...
...soaked to the skin as I drove home...
A quick turnaround and a lift from Anne along to Stockbridge for young chum Josh's leaving do from my ex-office...
Somehow, no pics of Josh!
Hmmm...
Might be explained by the rather high intake of drinks tonight...
Anne found Gary and I just after midnight in the chippie opposite the hotel...
It must be said I was the worse for wear but had had a good night...
So, you know...
Hmmm, indeed...
A good day, all told...
Highlight of the Day : Visiting my dad's old haunts...
