Up super early and working on this week's playlist - posted around 7:45...

Post breakfast, took a mountain of books to Lothian Cat Rescue in Easter Road, deciding to help out our furry friends rather than traipsing around the second hand bookshops, exchanging unwanted/read books for more that would most likely never be looked at...

On the way back, stopped off at Unknown Pleasures with £25 remaining in credit there.  I usually buy a few classical titles from their 4 for £10 section but, today, on noting nothing new there, I was about to leave when I spotted a copy of the 4 disc Gentle Giant box set "Scraping the Barrel"...

Credit duly wiped...

Some interesting listening amongst the 12 or 13 hours worth of material on here (the 4th disc comprises MP3s and documents of interest) - if you're a Gentle Giant fan - which, of course, I am...

Meanwhile Anne was cooking for tonight's visitors...

I returned to the laptop and compiled a playlist for this evening...

...comprising the shortest track from each of the last 100 acquisitions - ranging from just 37 seconds of the music of Zanetti through to a 13 minute string quartet piece by Rochberg...

All in all, five hours of music, the first two and a quarter of which I mixed together a la the weekly playlists posted here - with the remainder "just" burned to discs to play...

At 6, Keith and Maureen arrived and a good time was had by all over the next five hours - including superb Indian fair from the Exec Producer...

...and, the ostensible purpose of the visit was achieved with some Keith Jarrett magicked up for my brother-in-law...

Off they went into the night for the last bus home as your correspondent fell asleep watching the second part of the "University Challenge" documentary...

A good day indeed...

Highlight of the Day : Gentle Giant find and Visitors and compiling...
