Last full day of the holiday and the weather promised to scorch...

Breakfast at the railway station...

...and to the platform, tickets having been secured...

...for the 40 minute journey to...

...Ferrara...

...arriving around 11:30 for a day long visit...

We walked down into the old town, noting this leaning tower on the way...

...and this statue to the famous "biscuit inventor"...

We started our tour at the Castello Estense di Ferrara...

...walking through the courtyard and paying a visit to the tourist info centre therein, before emerging at the other side, under the imposing statue of the 15th Century monk, prophesier and philosopher, Girolamo Savonarola...

..and along to...

..the cathedral, which we kept for later...

Instead we trawled a market - Anne was delighted of course - while I found a jazz CD to add to the collection, for just three of your European Euros...

This was indeed a beautiful town...

Our next target was the old Jewish Quarter...

...famous for its many (though not too many pictured here) arches...

Back to the cathedral square...

...before finding a wee place for lunch...

Tagliatelle Bolognese...

Very apt and extremely tasty...

More walking...

...and exploring...

...as we made our way up Corso Ercole i D'Este...

..to the Diamante Palace...

...where this wee monkey entertained under the roasting sun...

Meanwhile, texts were starting to arrive from Scotchland for Anne, advising the new owner of Hearts had sacked her manager and several of Anne's favourite players...

The future of the club was the subject of debate as we enjoyed a stroll around Parco Massari...

Eventually of course, ice cream was required...

It was scorching...

These impressed on the Corso della Giovecca...

...before we popped round the corner and back to the cathedral, this time...

...entering...

Exhausted, we walked the last mile back past the Castello Estense di Ferrara and to the station...

...from where we caught an even faster train which made the trip back to Bologna in just 30 mins...

Back at the flat, some spying over the rooftops was carried out...

..while Anne got herself bang up to date on the Hearts situation...

Later, back out under a slowly sinking sun...

..and back to Saturday night's excellent pizza place, ordering slightly different ones this time...

Double yum, ya dancer!

Then, a last constitutional around the environs...

All over bar the shouting, as they say...

Lights out...

Highlight of the Day : A trip to Ferrara - not the home of Ferrero Rocher, as opined by a Yorkshire lady on the train...
